The Monroe Library Welcomes You!

We Have Missed You! Over the last year and a half, Library Lines has taken a bit of a hiatus due to the pandemic and loss of programming in efforts to respect the social-distancing guidelines. We closed our doors to the public on March 16th, 2020, with little knowledge to what the future of the library would hold. All New Jersey Libraries had to stop their programs and other services temporarily. Upon returning, some libraries did not make out as well as others: The pandemic has been devastating to so many people, their families and community— but the Monroe Township Library is proud of all we accomplished since we reopened for curbside pickup in June of 2020 and since reopening our doors to the public on July 6th, 2020. During this time, the Monroe Township Library has made it a goal to do everything we could for our community in these trying times.

So, in case you missed it: we had a “Stay Parade” for Halloween and Easter, Santa came to visit (Santa!!!), children, tween and teen gift bags were offered throughout the months of October 2020 through August 2021, outdoor Paint Dates and Story Time commenced and we kick-started the Summer Reading program (with prizes!). It has been our goal to serve our community as best as we could while respecting the health and safety of the community. It has been a long ride, but programming is FINALLY back! We have missed you, and we are glad to be back.

IT'S ALIIIIIIIVE!!!

In honor of

Halloween and the

90th anniversary of

the original

Frankenstein movie,

we present several

Frankenstein movies

that range from spine

-tingling to side-

splitting. Bring your

lunch (bottled water

provided). No

signups required.

Frankenstein Boris Karloff 1931

Lunch and a Movie Frankenstein (1931): Monday, 10/4, 12pm We kick off with the one that started it all...and cemented the Frankenstein Monster as a horror icon. Henry Frankenstein (Colin Clive) is determined to crack open the mysteries of the universe and create life from lifeless-ness—but when he animates his creature (Boris Karloff), events spiral be-yond his control and innocent lives, including his fiancée’s, are endan-gered. Can he atone for his wrongs and bring his own creation (who is more pitiable than evil) under control? Curse of Frankenstein (1957): Monday, 10/12, 12pm Hammer Studios’ take on the Frankenstein story is unique in that it pre-sents Victor Frankenstein (Peter Cushing) as actively evil rather than just misguided and arrogant. Victor is willing to kill in order to provide his crea-ture (Christopher Lee) with the brain it needs, and to use the creature’s murderous instincts to rid him of his adulterous lover who is carrying his child. The creature becomes ever more psychotic and threatening, but the question remains: which is the real monster? Young Frankenstein (1974): Monday, 10/18, 12pm We finish out the month with Mel Brooks’ classic comedy—both a hilarious parody and a loving tribute to the Universal Frankenstein movies. Freder-ick Frankenstein (Gene Wilder), grandson of Victor, has always wanted to distance himself from his grandfather’s legacy...but when he inherits the family castle in Transylvania, he becomes fascinated with Victor’s journal and resolves to get it right this time. With the help of hunchbacked Igor (pronounced Eye-gor), beautiful assistant Inga (pronounced Inga) and sin-ister housekeeper Frau Blucher (neigh!!!), he brings a new monster (Peter Boyle) to life. Will history repeat itself? Will Frederick overcome his grand-father’s mistakes? Will the creature master tap-dancing?
