Bittersweet Goodbye! I would like to thank all of you for

making my job here as the Library

Supervisor such a pleasure! It is with

heartfelt emotions that I will be retiring

on December 4th, 2018 to accomplish

some new endeavors.

You, the patrons, need to know how

much each and every one of you have

made a difference in my life. I have

enjoyed getting to know all of you and

will miss your insights, your humor and

the life lessons you have taught me. I

have been honored to be able to help

some of you on the computers, to find

books, or to research some of the most

interesting subjects out there. Know

that when we do not see you for a

while, you are in our hearts, and we

miss you.

To the staff, I want to also thank

each and every one of you for the many

years of support, ideas, comradery and

dedication to this library. And last but

not least, I cannot say enough about

the volunteers here! You make it what

it is! Every week, sometimes for years

on end, you come in and help us out in

so many ways that enable the staff to

accomplish our goals. I have tasted the

best baked goodies ever, learned

origami (very little), and feel honored to

have met such a great number of giving

people. Know that we couldn’t do it

without your support!

As I walk into a new unknown, full

of new grandbabies and travel, I would

like to say that the library will continue

to be an integral part of my life. I hope

that everyone knows the staff here has

wonderful new ideas that will transition

into a better, more productive place for

our community. Please continue to put

your comments and suggestions in the

suggestion box, as staff and the Library

Advisory Board views each and every

one. We have always strived, and will

continue to treat each idea with the

uniqueness they suggest.

9 How to Reverse Heart Disease

With Dr. Richard Ruhling

It has been 28 years since US News Magazine’s cover

story on How to Reverse Heart Disease featured Dr. Dean

Ornish, says Dr. Richard Ruhling. A retired MD, Ruhling

will show Cleveland Clinic Cardiologist, Dr. Esselstyn’s

DVD revealing how a bypass operation isn’t needed if

people only eat better.

Ruhling will tell of his own experience with a New

York executive whose three cardiologists felt it was too

risky for a bypass surgery. The executive was 65 and taking

12 pills a day, but he was getting worse. One of his

cardiologists stated that if he quit the medicine, he would

die. But he quit anyway and in six weeks with a better diet,

began playing tennis and climbing hills again. He outlived

his cardiologist to 92 years of age.

Ruhling will present this information and more on

Saturday, October 20 at 12 p.m. This presentation is the

second in a Total Health series at the library.

The Lido, by Libby Page A story based in Brixton, London where the main character, Rosemary Peterson, has lived all her life. The Lido is the outdoor pool where she has come to swim every day and where she met her now-deceased husband. Things are changing in her little community and the Lido is slated to close and be replaced with a private community of apartments and a recreation area. She crosses paths with, and eventually meets, a 20-something, introvert, journalist, Kate. They strike up a friendship, based on their love for swimming at the Lido, and become the catalysts for saving the Lido from the developers. ~Joyce R.

Picture Us in the Light, by Kelly Loy Gilbert Don't read this unless you want to be pulled deeply into the fabric of Danny Cheng's life, experience his profound and sometimes deeply painful relationships, be drawn into an alarming family mystery, and see what this young man will do when faced with having to be true to his heart. You've been warned! ~Dina D.

And Then There Were None, by Agatha Christie Ten strangers, apparently with little in common, are lured to an island mansion off the coast of Devon by the mysterious U.N. Owen. Over dinner, a record begins to play, and the voice of an unseen host accuses each person of hiding a guilty secret. That evening, former reckless driver Tony Marston is found murdered by a deadly dose of cyanide. The tension escalates as the survivors realize the killer is not only among them but is preparing to strike again... and again... ~Therese D.

Hillbilly Elegy, by J.D. Vance A memoir of what it is like to grow up poor in middle America and still find a way to law school. Poverty does not discriminate, and at times we can all use a helping hand. ~Ryan B.

How Music Works, by David Byrne Musicians and music fans alike will enjoy Talking Heads front man David Byrne’s fascinating take on how the evolution of technology has shaped the way music is made, listened to and distributed. ~Kyle S.

Ready Player One, by Ernest Cline (film by Steven Spielberg) At once wildly original and stuffed with irresistible nostalgia, READY PLAYER ONE is a spectacularly genre-busting, ambitious, and charming debut - part quest novel, part love story, and part virtual space opera set in a universe where spell-slinging mages battle giant Japanese robots, entire planets are inspired by Blade Runner, and flying DeLoreans achieve light speed. ~Jeff C.
