Transitions always involve two consecutiveparts. They can be two audio clips, two videoor photo clips, or even one clip next to black or silence. The goal is to transition from one thingto another by placing a transition at the head or tail of a clip. In contrast to that, video effects(like color filters) are placed on the body of anindividual clip, and may be animated usingkeyframes. Both effects and transitions canhave parts that are transparent, like a window to the next layer below on the timeline. You can achieve fantastic visuals by layeringyour media with transitions and effects.

Step-by-step: Editing Video EffectsDouble-click a clip on the timeline to open the Effects Editor, then select an effect type and a style, e.g. Camera – Old Film (hover for preview), and apply by clicking it.

Edit the effect parameters as you like.

Click the Play button for preview and click OK to finalize your selection.

In the Library, select Transitions. You will find further effect categories in the tree, e.g. Studio HD-Transitions – Light.

Note:On the timeline, a pink bar on the clipshows that there is an Effect appliedand an orange or green ruler meansthat the effect is being calculated.

Step-by-step:Pan and Zoom PhotosSometimes you want to highlight certain elements of your photo or video; you canfocus on your precious moments by addingmotion pans and zooms that your still camera could not capture. This and muchmore can be achieved with the easy-to-use Pan and Zoom effect in Avid Studio.”

Tip – Resolution Matters!Pan and Zoom accesses your photos full nativeresolution, regardless of your timeline resolution. So the higher the resolution of your photo, themore you can zoom in while maintaining quality.

Place a photo on the timeline and double-click it to open the Effects Editor. Click on thePan and Zoom tab and choose Animated.

Adjust the green box for the beginning and the red box to adjust the end of the effect. You can also turn on keyframing and animateto multiple positions.
