The Lady Flames will take on Notre Dame (3-4, 1-3 ACC) and preseason BIG EAST favorite Villanova. Notre Dame took one out of three game at then No. 18 Duke last weekend, while Villanova opens its season this week. Liberty went 0-4 at the Bama Bash last weekend in Tuscaloosa, Ala., falling twice each to No. 5 Alabama and No. 7 LSU. The Lady Flames held a 3-0 lead over LSU on Friday following an Amber Bishop-Riley two-run homer, but the Tigers rallied for a walk-off 4-3 win. Liberty fell to LSU in the fi- nale, 8-5, as its late comeback fell short. Bishop-Riley was named to the Bama Bash All-Tournament Team afet hitting .385 last weekend. One key stat this season so far has been that Liberty is 5-for-8 with bases loaded, while op- ponents have hit just 1-for-10 in such situations. For the third year in a row, Liberty was voted the favorite in the ASUN Preseason Coaches’ Poll. Senior Amber Bishop-Riley was voted the ASUN Preseason Player of the Year and was joined on the ASUN Preseason All-Conference Team by sophomore Kara Canetto. Bishop-Riley hit .450 with three homers and six RBI last week and received her fourth career ASUN Player of the week honor. Three-time NFCA All-Region player Amber Bishop-Riley bats .419 with three homers, and is the NCAA Division I active leader in career games played, at bats, and hits. Savannah Channell (.357) and Emily Sweat (.303) have hit two homers apiece, with Sweat leading the team in RBI (11) and Channell second in RBI (9). Karlie Keeney (3-2, 3.43) has tossed slightly over 50 percent of the team’s innings. 2020 Oklahoma Gatorade Player of the Year McKen- zie Wagoner is 1-0 with a 1.50 ERA and .182 opponents’ batting average. Emily Kirby (1-1, 3.82) struck out a career-high eight batters in her second start of the season (at Troy) after shutting out Middle Tennessee in her season debut. Naomi Jones received her first career pitching action in last Saturday’s loss at Alabama, while Megan Johnson is 1-1 so far. 2021 Team Leaders Avg. A Stadium You Need to Visit Liberty Softball Stadium was listed by NCAA.com in a 2017 article, “College Softball: 7 Stadiums You Need to Visit.” Liberty is the only school to have both its baseball and softball stadiums recognized by NCAA.com that year.

Liberty Softball Stadium Named No. 10 College Softball Stadium Through a fan vote conducted by FloSoftball.com, Liberty Softball Stadium was voted the sixth best college softball stadium in the nation in 2017, and is 10th this year. Loui-siana Lafayette’s Lamson Park was voted No. 1. In 2016, Liberty Softball Stadium ap-peared second on the list, trailing only LSU’s Tiger Park.

Stadium Dedication Liberty officially dedicated its new facility prior to the Lady Flames’ doubleheader against Presbyterian on April 3, 2015. A pregame ceremony took place, as former Liberty head coach Paul Wetmore provided the invocation. Liberty President Jerry Falwell, along with current head coach Dot Richardson, threw out the ceremonial first pitches. Becki Falwell and Liberty Director of Athletics Jeff Barber were also a part of the ceremony. The highlight of the pre-game ceremony was the announcement of naming rights of the field, which will now be called Kamphuis Field at Liberty Softball Stadium. Dwayne Kamphuis, a financial supporter of Liberty University and the softball pro-gram, is a legendary fast pitch softball pitcher. Kamphuis traveled the world playing in exhibition softball games as part of the renowned “King and His Court” team, headed up by Eddie “The King” Feigner.

Opening Games Liberty posted a 3-2 record at the Liberty Softball Classic, March 19-21, 2015. The Lady Flames opened their new Liberty Softball Stadium with a 9-2 win over Rider on March 19, and picked up wins over Princeton and Quinnipiac as well.

Firsts for All During the first game in Liberty Softball Stadium history, March 19, 2015 against Rider, Megan Robinson recorded the first hit, Madison Kotchey the first double and RBI, Mickey Loveridge the first triple, Tori Zavodny the first stolen base and home run and Chandler Ball the first pitch, strikeout and first victory. Extra, Extra Liberty downed Coastal Carolina, 5-4 in 10 innings on April 18, 2015 the first extra-inning game in Liberty Softball Stadium history. The Lady Flames are 3-2 in extra-inning contests at Liberty Softball Stadium.

Lights, Camera, Action The Liberty Softball Stadium is equipped with the latest technology, making it ready for television broadcasts. A majority of Liberty’s home games are scheduled to air on ESPN+. With home and visting radio booths available, select home games will air on 90.9 FM The Light as well.

Team Notes- While Liberty has not faced Villanova in softball, Liberty’s field hockey team just swept Villanova in a pair of BIG EAST matches last weekend in Lynchburg by identical 7-1 scores. The Fighting Irish will be the second Notre Dame program to play on Liberty’s campus, after Notre Dame’s women’s lacrosse team won 14-10 at Liberty on Feb. 17, 2019.- Liberty scored eight runs last weekend against LSU, who had the nation’s best ERA during the 2020 season at 0.95.- The Lady Flames were also the first team to score a run off of No. 5 Alabama, falling 6-3 last Friday. The Crimson Tide had not allowed a single run in its first four games combined. - Liberty has won each of its last 14 games against unranked opponents, and is 30-0 in its last 30 home games against unranked nonconference opponents. The last time Liberty lost at home to an unranked nonconference team was an 8-5 loss to Central Michigan on Feb. 15, 2018.- Liberty used the same batting lineup for the first nine games this season before inserting Devyn Howard in right field, batting ninth in today’s order. That is the longest Liberty has gone in a season before switching its batting order in its NCAA Division I history (since 1994).- So far this season, Liberty has been outcored 14-10 in the first inning of games. The Lady Flames outscored opponents 10-1 in the first inning during their first six games, but Alabama and LSU scored a combined 13 first-inning runs in four games against Liberty last weekend. - Liberty is 6-0 when outhitting an opponent this season, and 0-4 when being outhit. - The Lady Flames are 4-0 this season when scoring in the first inning. - Liberty is 1-1 in one-run games and 1-0 in two-run games this season. The Lady Flames have got-ten seventh-inning game-winning hits from Mary Claire Wilson (Feb. 13 vs. Middle Tennessee) and Kara Canetto (Feb. 17 at Troy) so far.- Liberty is 51-5 at Liberty Softball Stadium since the start of the 2018 season. The Lady Flames outscored opponents 25-4, outhitting teams .353-.147 during last year’s abbreviated four-game home schedule. - Liberty’s current home winning streak stands at 16 games. That is the second longest home win-ning streak in program history.
