With two runners on and two outs, and facing a 1-2 count, Amber Dono-van belted a three-run home run to left, giving Liberty a 7-5 lead, which served as the final score in the game. The Lady Flames had 11 hits in their 4-0 win over Gardner-Webb, Sat-urday, ending an 11-game winless streak, and then recorded 10 base hits in an 8-3 win against the Runnin’ Bulldogs in game two. The team registered nine hits in its 7-5 win at Gardner-Webb on Sunday, its first win this season when totaling fewer than 10 hits.

Crisante and Amber Donovan went yard back-to-back during the fourth inning of a 7-1 win over Savannah State, Feb. 24 in Spartanburg, S.C.

Double the Fun The Lady Flames averaged nearly two doubles per game in six games this past week, hitting 11 doubles while also adding one triple and five home runs. Out of their 46 hits, 17 (37%) went for extra bases. In game two against Gardner-Webb, Saturday, Liberty hit four doubles, including two by Meredith Crisante, one triple and one home run, meaning 60 percent of its base hits were of the extra-base variety. Liberty is slugging at a .517 clip during conference play, raising its season slugging percentage to .392.

Shut the Door Chandler Ball and Alyssa DiMartino combined to pitch a six-hit shutout, Saturday against Gardner-Webb. Ball pitched the first three innings, allowing just two hits. DiMar-tino then entered the circle, finishing out the final four innings while striking out a career-high five batters. DiMartino would earn all three victories for the Lady Flames against Gardner-Webb, all in a relief role, as Ball started each game versus the Runnin’ Bulldogs. Ball has a 0.48 ERA as a relief pitcher this season, while DiMartino is 4-0 in relief.

What a Comeback! The Lady Flames battled back from a 12-2 deficit during a 14-13 victory over East Tennessee State, March 6. Liberty scored 10 runs on 11 hits in the bottom of the fourth to tie the game at 12-all, and won on a sixth-inning sacrifice fly by Hanna Nichols. Liberty’s 14-13 win over East Tennessee State: - Marked the largest deficit overcome in Liberty’s NCAA Division I softball history. - Was the first game ever played under lights at Liberty Softball Field. - Saw the Lady Flames post a 10-run inning for the first time since April 1, 2006. - Included a Liberty Softball Field-record 18 base hits by the Lady Flames. - Tied Liberty’s season high for runs scored in a single game.

Hit Parade (Part 2) Kaylee West and Katie Zavodny tied a program record with four hits apiece during Liberty’s 14-5 win over North Carolina Central, Feb. 11. It marked the first time in Liberty’s NCAA Division I era (since 1994) that two Lady Flames had four hits in the same contest. A four-hit game has been attained 27 times in Liberty’s NCAA Division I history. Jes-sica Moore and Alycia Stevens hold the Liberty softball record with four four-hit games apiece, while Libi Cook, West and Zavodny all have two four-hit contests to their credit.

That’s a Record Amber Donovan tied an NCAA Division I single-game record with three doubles on Feb. 24 versus Savannah State. Six Lady Flames have a three-double game to their credit, most recently Jessica Moore versus Bethune-Cookman, April 3, 2006. Donovan also tied a program record with four hits during that contest, making her the third Lady Flame with a four-hit game so far this season. The only other time in program history that three Liberty players had a four-hit game in the same year was 2000, when Meredith Hollyfield, Cheryl Wyrick and Lisa Jones all posted a four-hit contest.

First Things First Three current Lady Flames recorded a base hit in their first career at bats. Grace Nordan hit a home run during her first time to bat in a Liberty uniform. Kelby Allen and Jill Stephens both singled in their first at bat as a Lady Flame. A fourth, Bridgett Woods, drew a walk during her first career plate appearance. Championship Memories Liberty entered the 2011 Big South Softball Championship as the No. 2 seed. Af-ter falling to Winthrop in the opening round, the Lady Flames won four straight games, capped by a 3-1 win over top-seeded Radford in the final to claim its first title since 2002. The Lady Flames posted a 0.80 team ERA during the tournament, earning a pair of shutouts. Tiffani Smith earned Tournament MVP honors after throwing a no-hitter against host Winthrop, May 13. Sammi Shivock hit two game-winning home runs, one against Gardner-Webb and another in the final against Radford. Meredith Crisante went yard twice on May 13 at Win-throp. Both Shivock and Crisante both earned All-Tournament honors. Liberty qualified for the NCAA Softball Championship Knoxville Regional, where the Lady Flames faced No. 5 Tennessee and No. 19 Georgia Tech. The team led Georgia Tech, 2-1, going into the bottom of the fifth inning on May 21, before the Yellow Jackets rallied to down Liberty, 4-3.

Preseason Postings Liberty has been predicted to finish second in the Big South Preseason Softball Coaches Poll, behind Radford.
