All Rights Reserved. 2 This week we’re Reading Abraham Lincoln Talking About How working together has changed history Learning About Contractions Author’s Purpose Write these words: was not, she is, we will, I am. Have your child write the contraction that stands for each pair of words. Your child learned to identify author’s purpose for writing, such as to entertain or to inform. Show your child the cover of a book. Ask who wrote the story and why. Write these words: certainly, either, great, laugh, second, worst, you’re. Take turns using the words to write sentences. Have your child write each of these spelling words: didn’t, hadn’t, haven’t, he’s, I’ll, I’m, isn’t, it’s, she’s, can’t, aren’t, who’s. Ask your child to use the words to make up song titles. The week your child learned about author’s purpose. Read a short newspaper article with your child. Ask your child for ideas about the author’s purpose in writing the story. Have your child write one sentence that explains the best idea.
