Leica FMS – the benefits at a glanceReal-time feedback
• General operator feedback
The key function of machine
information systems is the
provision of real-time feedback
to the person who controls
the process.
Leica FMS delivers the information
required when it’s needed.
If operators want to know
their load counts and tonnes
moved in the last hour or the
last shift, against targets, the
information is available on
screen in the machine’s cab.
• No more incorrect loading
User-friendly graphics show
loader operators the centre of
gravity for each truck load, as
well as the target and actual
load weights for each machine.
With this information there can
be no excuse for incorrect loading.
Efficient
• ‘Big Picture’ aids fast management decisions
As progressive mines strive for
more efficient processes, the ability
to control mining operations from
a single point is now a necessity.
With Leica Geosystems’ offboard
software, an Operations Controller
can quickly and easily see the big
picture right across the site in real-
time. This gives mine management
the ability to make on-the-fly
decisions aimed at maximising
production and product quality while
minimising costly fleet delays.
• Tracking mine equipment
Leica FMS tracks the location of
all equipment within the mine by
the use of satellites. The Pit Display,
included as standard in the offboard
software, uses this GPS positional
data to graphically represent exactly
where all Leica FMS fitted equipment
is located on the mine.
Leica FMS> helping you drive
productivity with ease
With a simple hover of the mouse,
the software can give the current
activity of the machine, its current
location, the name of the logged
on operator, as well as up-to-date
shift statistics for all pieces
of equipment.
The Pit Display makes the job of
locating equipment for shift change
or maintenance easy no matter
where it is on the mine site.
• Delay detection and analysis
Leica FMS will automatically record
the start and duration of all delays.
Accurate delay detection allows
for detailed analysis of lost time
improving vehicle utlisation. A
dropdown list of possible reasons
for the delay is presented to the
operator. Simply touching the screen
on the appropriate delay will tag the
start of the delay with the operator’s
reason.
• Automatic delay codes
If operators forget to enter a reason
for delay, in many cases these
codes can be activated automatically
based on position and/or time.
• Software integration
One of the most important
functions of a monitoring
system is to provide data to
the people who need it.
Due to Leica Geosystems’ attention
to software integration, you can
for the first time easily compare
actual haul road performance
against planned performance.
Leica FMS integrates at various
levels with Mincom’s Minescape
and MIMS systems. In addition,
Leica FMS can also be integrated
with Runge Mining Software, SAP
(custom interface may be required
for integration), as well as a range
of other information systems.
• Automatic detection for weighing systems
For trucks fitted with weighing
systems, Leica FMS can even
automatically detect queuing,
spotting, loading and provide
full payload reporting.
Operator friendly
• Easy to use system
Leica FMS is so simple to use
that operators are working more
efficiently with only a few hours
of training. Simply turn the system
on and start work!
The human interface is via a LCD
touch screen. The screen is crisp
and clear and allows excellent
visibility as well as low glare
at night.
Versatile
• Solution for all auxiliary equipment
All mining equipment can be
fitted with Leica FMS units to
ensure that the fleet can be
totally monitored. The monitors
can detect when machines are
operating, record delays, engine idle
times, SMU hours and vital signs.
A quick look at the Pit Display
by maintenance staff can locate
auxiliary equipment within the
mine, reducing delays in repair
times, especially on back shifts.
Managing the data
• Turning data into information
A full suite of Windows based
reporting and analysis software,
including standard reports which
can be customised to meet specific
needs, is provided as an integral
part of the Leica FMS system.
This reporting system is intuitive
and easy to use which means that
anyone with minimal specialist
training can use the Leica offboard
application software.
All reporting software is designed
for network use and has multi-user
and multi-tasking functionality.
A powerful commercial open SQL®
database underpins the reporting
software, with open format data
structures accessible to anyone
with authorisation.
Data can easily be exported to a
variety of popular formats including
Microsoft Excel® or Adobe Acrobat®
for analysis in more detail.
You can also schedule reports at any
frequency to be printed, emailed
or placed on intranets. This allows
real-time fleet information to be
easily shared and used in decision
making to maximise productivity.
Leica FMS SolutionMaking timely production decisions is the key to maximising your mine fleet. You need to have accurate
production statistics and be able to monitor machine vital signs. FMS is a real-time fleet monitoring system
especially designed for open cut mining. Using GPS, Leica FMS can track each load, where it was mined,
and to where it was dumped.
It provides instant feedback on a range of mine fleet statistics.
Leica FMS supports your experience and aids your decisions.
Productivity gains made easy.
• Fast two way radio telemetry
To integrate the office with the
machine in the field, Leica FMS
uses reliable spread spectrum
radio systems. Both 900 MHz TDMA
and 2.4GHz 802.11 are supported.
This allows for a single radio
infrastructure for machine
monitoring at most mines to
deal with the large volumes of
data required for position and
information systems.
Reliable service and support
Leica FMS is sophisticated in design
making it simple to be maintained
and managed by mine staff. Onboard
diagnosis for quick trouble shooting of
the system includes radios, position
corrections and GPS.
Leica Geosystems is focused on
providing you with low maintenance
products that have competent back-up
support when you need it.
One Company. One Integrated Solution.
Vital Signs Monitoring*
Leica Geosystems can also help you keep
maintenance costs and downtime to an
absolute minimum. By providing interfaces
to vehicle monitoring systems, real-time
data and alarms for maintenance and
supervisors is possible.
Interfaces and software that can be
potentially implemented in Leica FMS
include VIMS®, TPMS®, DDEC®, CENSE®,
Statex III®, TEREX®, HAULTRONICS®,
CONTRONICS® and Dresser®. The list of
systems grows as new OEM monitoring
systems hit the market.
If you combine these interfaces with
the on-board FMS diagnostics system,
monitoring the health of the fleet and the
Leica FMS system becomes a lot easier.
An alarm generated by an engine/
transmission monitoring system or the
Leica FMS unit is relayed to the workshop
or office in seconds. This means
operators can report faults directly
to the maintenance staff, even tracking
the progress of the fault at the touch
of a screen.
The Leica FMS module design means
that most faults can be fixed with a
simple change of the ‘box’.
High precision GPS for shovels
Shovels installed with Leica FMS
can also be fitted with high precision
GPS receivers which allow operators to
see accurate bench heights measured at
the tracks. This feedback allows them to
excavate to a planned RL more accurately
than ever before.
Laptop option for field supervisors
Supervisors can integrate a rugged laptop
into their site vehicle allowing them to edit
shift data, run reports, message machines,
and view the Graphical Pit Display in real
time as if they were sitting at their
office desk.†
Options for Leica FMS
† 2.4GHz radio network is required for this option.* A custom interface may be required for this option.
