NEW rating system for 2016-17: 1. Has your chapter had an RMF claim in the last three years?2. Has your chapter been reviewed by CAMAC for either a 7-day

letter, policy violation, or membership review in the last three years?

3. Did your chapter win a Peterson Award in 2015?4. Did your chapter’s Risk Manager attend BLTW in 2015?5. Does your chapter prohibit alcohol in the chapter house? If

no chapter house, does your chapter use a third-party venue to host all social events?

6. Was your chapter’s GPA above the all-mens’ average for all terms last school year? Please provide university-reported Chapter GPA and all mens’ GPA by term.

 After submitting the required information and documentation, please allow two weeks for your updated 2016-17 estimate.

• Why are the necessary?

A Crisis Management Plan is a basic guide to providing a response system to a major crisis or emergency occurring in the course of Chapter activities.

• When do we create a plan?

NOW.

Because of the nature of crises, it is not possible to start planning after an incident occurs.

Your chapter must ready IN ADVANCE.

Crisis Management - Inaction

- No info from event: No guest list and no witness statements

- Police investigation intensifies: brothers admit providing and serving alcohol

- Police learn that no IDs were checked

- Chapter leadership forced to retain defense counsel—at their own expense

Follow-up?

- Chapter meets informally; all agree to say nothing- No contact with CADV or HQ or Univ- Press coverage explodes; Police begin investigation- HQ learns of incident from media; no prepared response- Members refuse to cooperate w/HQ, Police

• Make safety of brothers and guests the priority• Understand any school regulations and procedures• Compile “The List” for key contacts• Cooperate fully with investigators• S/CMT to review plan w/entire chapter each term• Re-Evaluate w/any new risk exposure or new event

DON’T

• Make plan so complex that it cannot be implemented• Respond to media inquiries with “No comment.”• Commit to procedures that chapter cannot carry out• Forget to remain flexible during the crisis as the

environment and circumstances may change quickly• Forget to re-evaluate the plan consistently
