A crowd joined in the boot camp on Sunday morning – a good start to Mother’s Day. Amanda ran another boot camp in the holidays with great success. With this theme of physical activity, the next fundraiser is the Rainbow Run which will conclude the cross country to be held on 27 May. Students will seek sponsorship for the Rainbow Run and for every $5 they raise, they will receive some coloured chalk to be part of creating a house coloured rainbow. Students have received their sponsorship forms. The ChessNuts were back in action on Thursday travelling to Forbes High School. The Forbes team were surprised by the relative youth of our team with our two Year 7 players, Peter Armstrong and Dylan King, plus Sam Carpenter and Yongyan Xia. Within 30 seconds and four moves Dylan won his game much to the shock of his Year 11 opponent. Both Peter and Sam won their games, and Yongyan was locked into a marathon game where eventually she was check mate. The whole team was excited about their successes and are keen to develop their skills. We are looking for someone who is able to teach our keen chess players some of the intricacies of the game. Contact the school if you think you can help. We have some great strategic minds here ready to learn. Last Thursday the junior Rugby union team competed in a gala day over at Bathurst. They were a tight team and faced strong competition from the bigger schools, never giving up, which paid off in the last game against Coolah Central School which they won 7-2. Mr Robinson was very impressed with the team’s tenacity, and ability to stay focused on playing as a team. The boys and girls tennis teams played against Parkes on Wednesday. Mr Rodney said our students played well but were out-classed by some top players in the Parkes team. Thanks to Danny Joyce for supporting the teams on the day. The Shoe Horn Sonata is one of the HSC texts that Year 12 are studying, so last Friday’s trip to Orange to see a live production was an added bonus in developing the students’ understanding of the text. As an opportunity to see a live production, Year 11 and 10 students were invited to join the group. It was an excellent production which the students thoroughly enjoyed. Years 7 and 9 have completed the NAPLAN testing this week. It was a very calm occasion with students quietly completing the four different sections targeting numeracy, writing, reading and language conventions. Results are due out late term 3. Teachers from Grenfell Public School joined our teaching staff for an evening of professional learning on Monday night. The learning was how the world our students are growing up in is changing rapidly and what they require are skills to be life long learners. We also looked at the research evidence on how we learn, particularly focusing on the mindset and how that impacts on our responsiveness to new and challenging ideas. We meet again on Tuesday 31 May to continue. There is a lot of conversation about uniform. The main message is that sports shorts and tracksuit trousers are Wednesday wear, and that students need to be in trousers, dress shorts or skirts for the rest of the week. Trousers for boys are available through the canteen though sometimes additional orders need to be sent to get the sizing right. Students can continue to wear the sky blue polo shirts and sloppy joes, and the crew neck jumper and fleecy jacket and purchase the new shirts and jumpers as required. More come dressed in new uniform every day, and the positive comments continue to flow. The P&C have put together a fantastic window display, exhibiting the postcards students from across the Weddin schools created. The display is in the shop front just down from Thrifty Link. You can purchase the winning postcards from The Tin Cupboard and DA Yates – they are a beautiful set. Margaret Carey Principal

Well-being Corner“No pressure no diamonds.”

Deep beneath the earth’s surface, a chunk of carbon undergoes tremendous pressure and heat and chrystalises into the world’s most

precious stone.

When you’re feeling overwhelmed by expectations, responsibilities and too much

and sparkle.

Narromine Rotary Club’s RYCOTT 2016

I was honoured to be selected as a participant in the 2016 RYCOTT Camp at Narromine NSW. I wish to thank the Rotary Club of Narromine for presenting an exceptional agricultural experience in all facets of the cotton industry. The care and guidance given by the members of the Narromine Rotary Club, led by Mr Geoff Smith and his team, was exceptional and made the camp fun.As my choice of career path is in the agricultural sector, I found this camp beneficial, providing me with further insight into the cotton industry and strengthening my resolve for a career in this area. I highly recommend these camps to any agricultural student given the opportunity to attend. The RYCOTT Camp is a great networking and social experience with other students who are like minded and persuing a career in agriculture.

Supply of medication at schoolParents are responsible for supplying their child’s prescribed medication and any ‘over the counter’ medication needed.

Prescribed medication should be sent in a pharmacy labelled container detailing the student’s name and the prescribed dose. Parents need to provide written advice giving school staff permission to administer the medication and advising of any storage requirements.

Medication should be kept in a secure place in the school office and not in the student’s school bag, except in circumstances where a student needs to carry their prescribed medication for immediate access e.g. Ventolin and EpiPens. Please advise the school if your child is required to carry their own medication.

The school is able to administer paracetamol to students if there is a note allowing permission. If a student is in need of paracetamol and no permission note has been provided, a staff member will attempt to contact the parent or carer. Medication cannot be administered without authorisation.

Wow what a week the P&C have had!Thank you to all the mothers and daughters and members of the community who joined us on Mother’s Day for the bootcamp lead by our Henry Lawson Festival Queen Entrant Ms Amanda Livingstone. The cold and wet day meant the venue was changed to the school which was great and added to the feel. It was a most enjoyable morning and a great way to start Mother’s Day. At the conclu-sion of the bootcamp, Amanda draw the raffle which had been running.First prize of ½ a dressed lamb kindly donated by Ian & Jenny Armstrong and supplied by Lyle Walker was won byMrs H Watt.Second prize: $50 Go Grenfell Card won by B Warnke.Third prize: $25 Myer Card won by Marlene Harris.Thank you to everyone that supported the raffle.

Yesterday students received a sponsorship form and permission note for a Rainbow Run. This Rainbow Run is a fundraiser by the P&C for our festival queen entrant Ms Amanda Livingstone and will take place at the conclusion of the school cross country on Friday 27 May.For each $5.00 the students receive in sponsorship, they will receive a bag of coloured chalk to use in the Rainbow Run. It will be a fun way to finish off the cross country this year and raise funds for our festival queen.

If you have not already seen, the P&C have installed a display in the old Temperance Hall window, showcasing the sesquicentenary “Design a Postcard” entries. All entries are on display and will stay there until after the October long weekend. Postcards are available from The Tin Cupboard and DA Yates for $2 each or $10 for the full set of 6 designs. What a great keepsake and all proceeds will go back to supporting our students.

Finally the P&C would like to say and big THANK YOU to the following people for their ongoing and continued support of the P&C, Alan Leibick and Kristy Evers for the Temperance Hall window, Ngaire Soley and The Grenfell Record for the promotion and support of the Design a Postcard competition, Denise and Michael Yates and Paige Wood and Lachie Martens for stocking and selling our postcards.
