It contributed 9.4 percent of the county’s total agricultural and forestry production, making it the second largest agricultural commodity. The third largest agricultural commodity was cotton, which contributed 7.9 percent of the county’s total. Forestry ProductionTimberland accounted for 43.1 percent of the surface land area of Lawrence County. Total forestry production contributed 1.4 percent of the county’s total agricultural and forestry production.

Overall Contributions to Lawrence CountyLawrence County’s agricultural, forestry, and related industries generated 8,444 full- and part-time jobs, representing 67.7 percent of the county’s total workforce (12,469 jobs).

The total impact of agriculture, forestry, and related industries was $1.4 billion, which was 84.1 percent of the county’s total economic activity ($1.7 billion). The indirect business taxes impact was $42.2 million, 78.8 percent of the county’s total indirect business taxes.
