Common Abbreviations and Their Definitions.ISSMA - Indiana State School Music Association. Governing body for all state-sponsored music activities. ISSMA sponsors the following marching band events: District, Regional and State. It also sponsors the Organizational (or concert format) District and State events for Orchestra, Bands and Choirs; and the District and State events for solo and ensemble performances in both instrumental and vocal. These events are hosted by various schools around the state. L.C. is a host site for an ISSMA District Marching Band Competition and the State site for the ISSMA Organizational events.

Invitational Show Choir CompetitionsShow Choir competitions are scheduled by the hosting school. Many times it is necessary to arrive at LCHS by 5:00 am. If we are fortunate enough to be in the finals, students may need to be picked up at the high school at 1 or 2 am. The itinerary with specific report times and approximate pick-up times will be posted on the web site and given to each student as soon as available but no later than the Wednesday prior to the competition. Including singers, back-up band, crew and chaperones the group can number over 100. There is equip-ment and costumes to load and attendance must be taken. It is important that students and parents pitch in to help things run smoothly and as quickly as possible. Thank you in advance for your assistance.

ISSMA Organizational CompetitionConcert Choir Competition that L.C. may or may not elect to compete.

PhilosophyThe Choir program is part of the Lawrence Central Performing Arts Depart-ment. The Department is committed to inspire students to achieve performance excellence. This artistic experience will involve training in the areas of music, dance and instrumental or equipment technique, as well as musical and theat-rical expression. This specialized instruction is designed to encourage each stu-dent to develop their individual skills to the maximum potential for the benefit of the entire ensemble, and to focus on mental and physical discipline, which is essential in the preparation and execution of world-class presentations. Although the music staff at Lawrence Central strives for the highest standards in musicality, performance, artistry and creativity, we believe this pursuit must be balanced with the primary need of providing students with numerous and varied learning experiences for personal growth.

Itineraries/Special Information It is the Performing Arts Department policy that high school students need to learn to be responsible in a number of areas, including getting information home to their parent(s) or guardian(s) in a timely manner. Therefore, all fundraising sales information, contest instructions, contest itineraries, meal plan forms, picnic or party reservation forms, etc. are handed out in class and placed on a stand in the front of the choir room for easy access. Itineraries will be posted on the website (www.lcpaa.org) by Tuesday before a performance. Printed itineraries are available on Wednesday before a Saturday contest.

Letter Jackets Often students wish to have a way of displaying their various awards and achieve-ments. The letter jacket has been a time honored method of accomplishing this. L.C. letter jackets come in a variety of styles and price ranges. Webster’s Sporting Goods Store (255-4855) at Hawthorne Place, 62nd Street and Binford Blvd. carries a selection of these jackets and can do the expected embroidery of student’s name on the front left and the school name, section, etc. on the back or back flap as desired.

Tickets/Season PassesP.A. Season Pass: Performing Arts Department Season Passes for the year are available for purchase beginning at the time of school registration. One FREE season pass is given to every student who has paid their total year quota at registration or before September 29. A season pass can also be purchased for $40.00.

All Season Passes, whether purchased or received through entire Quota Payment, must be acquired before September 29.

How to use your Season Pass.

1. A Season Pass does not mean you have a specific seat reserved on your behalf. Call the Box Office (964-7550) to reserve you tickets and/or pay for additional tickets to be picked up either at WILL CALL just before the performance or during school hours the week of the performance. You may also come to the Performing Arts Box Office to select a seat location for each ticketed performance. Your pass alone does not admit you to ticketed performances!

2. For the Lawrence Central Invitational, the Fall Play and Thespian Play, The Classic, and for the Night(s) of One Acts, it is open seating. Therefore no advanced arrangements need to be made. You can either show your card(s) or ask the admission person to check the Season Pass List for your name. Admissions will check-off your name for the number of passes being used.

Extra Curricular Activities HandbookRules and Regulations

Reprinted from the Bear Facts Student Book

The co-curricular and non-athletic extra-curricular programs strive to provide the best opportunities for students to excel beyond the school day in knowledge, skills, team-work, self-discipline, and moral character. The purpose is to provide each participant with experiences that will be positive, memorable and helpful to them to develop the capacity for commitment to a cause, acceptance of responsibility and loyalty toward any chosen endeavor, as well as enhance knowledge and skill.

DEFINITION OF TERmSA co-curricular activity is a credited course in which students are required as part of the course work to attend rehearsals, practices, concerts, events, etc. beyond the school day. A student’s grade is impacted by the student’s attendance and the student’s degree and quality of participation in these activities. A non-athletic extra-curricular activity is a non-athletic school sponsored activity which is not a part of a credited course. Financial Help through Fundraising Opportunities 1. Pledge Events - Fall & Spring, usually involving a walk-a-thon or game followed by group activities. A percentage goes to L.C.P.A.A. and a per-centage goes into student’s PA Account. [This is the policy for current pledge events. Conditions and percentages may vary depending on event. Check pledge envelopes for specific financial benefits.] 2. Product Sale. Student receives a percentage of gross sales. 3. Ad Sales. Student receives a percentage of the face cost of the ad. To sell ads for the Performing Arts Program, you must become a part of the Program Ad Sales Team headed by Sue Felli. Ad sales begins in July and ends October 1, 2014 for the next program for March 2015 through February 2016 4. Special Fundraising Opportunities. Occasionally, other opportu-nities become available, such as working or performances. Students partici-pating get a stipend applied to their PA account. If any parent has access to fundraiser opportunities for students, please contact one of the directors. 7. Financial Hardship. As the principal’s designee, Mr. James may waive financial obligations in cases of documented hardship. However, before this is considered, the student must have demonstrated significant efforts to “help themselves” through participation in all fundraisers. 8. Fall Scholarship. Students can apply for the Crown Hill Financial Assistance Scholarship. Applications will be available in October. 9. Statements/Receipts. Students receive a printed receipt every time they make a payment. A computer generated receipt will be sent home for every transaction. Invoices are mailed to all Performing Arts students before registration in August. Invoices are mailed to students with outstanding bal-ances three times: November, February, April and as part of a ‘Past Due’ notice in June.

Payments made by mail should be in check form and made out to L.C.P.A.A. Do not send cash in the mail. Any student not participating in fundraising opportunities must pay second semester quota fee by February 1, 2015. Any positive balance in a student’s account will be automatically applied to the next year’s quota unless it has been used to offset the cost of a trip.

Please keep these receipts and your cancelled check(s) along with all choir and Performing Arts information!
