Cortec® has had successful applications of MCI®-309Powder for Post Tensioning (PT) Cables. A recentapplication was conducted during rebuilding of theWacoutaBridge inSouthSt.Paul,Minnesota,thewidestbridgeinMinnesotawithregardstothenumberoflanes.

Punalu’u StreamBridge in Hawaii is located stepsawayfromthePacificOceanandtheatmosphereishighly contaminated with chlorides and sulfuricdioxide from the volcano. The acid rain combineswith chlorides to create a very corrosiveenvironment. Injection of MCI®-309 with air wasperformed justafter thepost tensioncableswereplaced. Thepowderdidnotneed tobe removedwhen the post-tension chambers were injectedwithgroutandwerereadilyabsorbedbythegrout.MCI®-309wasusedbecause itenabledprotectionofthesteelsurface,greatlyextendingtheexpectedservice life of the structure. It provided excellentcorrosionprotectioninanaggressiveenvironment.
