Dans ce dossier pédagogique, on revoit l’histoire du Petit Chaperon rouge en anglais, on découvre deux nouvelles versions anglaises ancrées dans la société moderne, puis on écrit une nouvelle version de ce conte universel.

Scénario pédagogique Les Objectifs énoncés sont ancrés sur les recommandations du Cadre européen commun de référence pour les langues (CECRL, Conseil de l’Europe, 2001) :

• Culturels / Interculturels : savoir, aptitudes et savoir-faire, savoir être et savoir apprendre (cf. chapitre V, 1. Compétences générales)

• Communicatifs : activités de communication langagière et stratégies, capacités traitées (cf. chapitre IV)

• Langagiers : compétences linguistiques, sociolinguistiques et pragmatiques (cf. chapitre V,2. Compétences spécifiques)

Les Documents supports constituent autant de types de « textes » authentiques permettant de travailler les objectifs (cf. chapitre IV).

La séquence pédagogique comprend 3 étapes pouvant correspondre à 3 séances de cours.

Étape 1 Objectifs et dispositif préconisé Le but de cette étape est de découvrir l’histoire du Petit Chaperon rouge en anglais.

Une salle de classe avec vidéoprojecteur est nécessaire si on choisit d’utiliser un diaporama.

Activité 1 : l’histoire Document 1 : images pour raconter l’histoire sur le site Teaching english, www.teachingenglish.org.uk/. Cliquer sur l’onglet « Try », puis sur « Britlit », puis « Resource kits for Primary learners » puis « Little Red Riding Hood » puis aller à « Story – helps you to tell the story » et choisir des flashcards ou le PowerPoint..

À l’aide de flashcards, le professeur fait raconter aux élèves l’histoire du Petit Chaperon rouge. Les mots en gras (du texte fourni ci-dessous) sont les mots que l’on montre à l’aide des flashcards ou que l’on mime, en particulier pour see, hear et smell). On prépare quatre boîtes (ACTIONS – FOOD – CLOTHES – BODY – OBJECTS – CHARACTERS) et à chaque fois qu’un mot nouveau (ou connu pour certains) est introduit, on le fait répéter et on demande à l’élève de le placer dans la bonne boîte :

Little Red Riding Hood lived in a wood with her mother. One day, she went to see her grandmother. She put on her red cloak and hood and took her basket with bread and butter in it. On her way, she met a big wolf. “Hello!” the wolf said. “Where are you going?” he asked. “I’m going to my Granny’s. She lives in a house behind those trees,” the little girl answered. The wolf ran to the house, ate Granny up and got into her bed. A little later, Little Red Riding Hood arrived and saw the wolf.

“Granny, what big eyes you have!” she said.

“All the better to see you with,” the wolf said.

“Granny, what big ears you have!” she said.

“All the better to hear you with,” the wolf said.

“Granny, what a big nose you have!” she said.

“All the better to smell you with,” the wolf said.

“Granny, what big teeth you have!” she said.

“All the better to eat you with,” the wolf shouted.

A woodcutter with his axe was in the wood. He heard a loud scream and ran to the house. The woodcutter hit the wolf over the head. The wolf opened his mouth wide and shouted, and Granny jumped out.

The wolf ran away and Little Red Riding Hood never saw the wolf again.

Dans le but de fixer le lexique introduit, on distribue la Fiche Élève 1.

Autre solution : on peut proposer des mots croisés. Il suffit ensuite de rentrer des définitions ou indices pour chaque mot.

Étape 2 Objectifs et dispositif préconisé Le but de cette étape est de faire découvrir une autre version du célèbre conte, celle de Road Dahl, par la vidéo.

Une salle de classe avec vidéoprojecteur et accès à Internet est nécessaire.

On précise aux élèves que cette version, publiée dans Revolting Rhymes, date de 1982.

Activité 3 : travail sur la vidéo Document 2 : film d’animation d’Hannah Legere sur le site Youtube, www.youtube.com. Taper dans le moteur de recherche : « Little Red Riding Hodd : As Told by Roal Dahl ».

Attention : selon le niveau de la classe et le lexique connu, il est recommandé d’introduire deux mots clés : coat et skin.

Compréhension audiovisuelle : les élèves travaillent à l’aide de la Fiche Élève 2.

Activité 4 : travail sur la vidéo Document 2 : film d’animation d’Hannah Legere sur le site Youtube, www.youtube.com. Taper dans le moteur de recherche : « Little Red Riding Hodd : As Told by Roal Dahl ».

Selon le niveau de la classe et le lexique connu, il est recommandé d’introduire deux mots clés : coat et skin.

Expression orale : le professeur fait visionner plusieurs fois la vidéo mais peut s’arrêter à 2 min 34 s pour faire anticiper la fin de l’histoire à l’oral.

La correction est collective.

Activité 5 : travail sur la vidéo Document 2 : film d’animation d’Hannah Legere sur le site Youtube, www.youtube.com. Taper dans le moteur de recherche : « Little Red Riding Hodd: As Told by Roal Dahl ».

Expression écrite : on demande ensuite aux élèves de réécrire l’histoire en version simplifiée.

Production possible :

As the wolf was hungry, he visited the grandmother and ate her up. As he wanted more, he disguised as the grandmother and waited for Little Red Riding Hood. Quite surprisingly enough, she shot the wolf dead and appeared a few weeks later with a beautiful wolfskin

Si le niveau est plus faible, on distribue un résumé à trous, et on fournit éventuellement la liste des mots dans le désordre.

Activité 6 : PRL (conceptualisation grammaticale) À l’issue du travail sur la vidéo, on propose un grand tableau avec deux colonnes. Dans l’une, on demande aux élèves de relever les points communs avec le conte original (réponses : the characters, the places: forest + the grandmother’s house, part of the dialogues, the wolf ate up the grandma, Little Red Riding Hood’s clothes, etc.) et dans l’autre, les différences (réponses: the little girl said to the wolf that he had a great big furry coat, the end, when she killed the wolf with a pistol and her new clothes at the end).

À l’issue de l’exercice, on propose une PRL sur le prétérit :

- Parlez-vous du passé, du présent ou de l’avenir ? du passé.

- Quel temps avez-vous utilisé ? le prétérit.

- Pourquoi ? pour parler d’événements révolus, coupés du présent.

- Comment se forme-t-il ? BV + -ED sauf pour les verbes irréguliers.

On peut proposer ici une réflexion sur la prononciation de la marque -ED au prétérit. On demande aux élèves de classer les verbes selon la prononciation du ED : [d], [t] ou [id]. Les verbes proposés dépendent de ceux que les élèves auront utilisés. On retrouvera sans doute :

[d]: lived, arrived, opened, disguised, happened, appeared

[t]: asked

[id]: shouted, visited, wanted, waited.

On distribue ensuite la règle à compléter :

Comment prononcer la marque ED finale du prétérit ? La prononciation change en fonction du son final du radical du verbe. Exemple : « play » se termine par le son |ei|, « start » se termine par le son |t|.

Il s’agit du son final et non de la dernière lettre. Exemple : le verbe « fix » se termine par le son |s|, car, phonétiquement, il s’écrit et se prononce |fiks| Une fois qu’on a identifié ce son final, il est très facile de savoir comment le prononcer :

> | | en règle générale, c’est-à-dire qu’on le prononce comme s’il y avait un « d » à la fin.

> | | après certains sons : si le verbe se termine par le son |p|, |k|, |f|, |s|.

> | | après les sons |d| et |t|.

On propose le conte réécrit par James Thurber en 1940, dans Fables of Our Time and Illustrated Poems.

Compréhension écrite : les élèves travaillent à partir de la Fiche Élève 3.

Activité 8 : expression écrite à partir d’une autre version Document 4 : texte The little girl and the wolf de James Thurber sur le site Google livres, http://books.google.fr/books. Taper le titre du texte dans le moteur de recherche.

On propose le conte réécrit par James Thurber en 1940, dans Fables of Our Time and Illustrated Poems.

Expression écrite : la fin de l’histoire n’est pas donnée aux élèves. Le professeur ne la lit qu’une fois que les élèves ont anticipé la fin (question 3). Si le mot automatic n’est pas compris, il mime.

Activité 9 : atelier d’écriture Seuls ou par deux, on demande aux élèves de réécrire le conte original en réinventant un nouveau dénouement. La phase de préparation peut se passer en classe et la phase de rédaction à la maison. En classe, les élèves préparent leur histoire dans les grandes lignes (Who? Where? When? What?) et mobilisent le lexique qu’ils utiliseront.

One afternoon a big wolf waited in a dark forest for a little girl to come along carrying a basket of food to her grandmother. So the wolf asked her where her grandmother lives and the little girl told him and he disappeared into the wood.
