Weekly Broadsheet
Spring Term
16 March 2018
www.lancingprepworthing.co.uk
Dear Parents,
My sincere thanks to those of you who supported us at our Open Day on Saturday and to all the
children who came in and represented their school so well. We had a brilliant morning and there is
certainly a great deal of interest in our school at the moment. We have had many follow up calls this
week and many of our visitors joined us through personal recommendations which is lovely to hear.
Year 6 have completed their ‘Bikeability’ this week. This new initiative has been a tremendous
success and after some initial anxieties, the children have thoroughly enjoyed learning new skills. It
is important for them to learn how to be safe on the road for obvious reasons and I am very pleased
that we have been able to use this excellent scheme.
On Monday, Alison Lapper MBE, joined us for the morning. It is hard to find the words to describe
how utterly amazing it was to be a part of our whole school assembly and to see the Year 3 and 4
children’s response to her as she taught them how to paint with their mouths and feet. Alison spoke
directly and honestly about her painting career and about living with her severe disability. She
spoke with humour and warmth and we laughed with her as she told stories of her life experiences.
She touched our hearts and I think this was a day that no one here will forget.
On Wednesday, Year 1 went on our annual trip to Paradise Park. Mrs Smith said ‘You would have
been so proud of Year 1 today. They were so well behaved and a real credit to our school. Their
enthusiasm was amazing and there were noisy, excited chatters and squeals every time they saw
something exciting around the next corner. It was lovely to hear them reading information boards
and pointing out something they had discovered. We all had a great time.’ Well done Year 1!
On Thursday afternoon, Year 6 travelled to Lancing College to watch ‘Pupik’, a co-production by
LUME Teatro, Brazil and The Karavan Ensemble, Brighton, and an exciting multi-layered and
visual physical theatre performance. The performers took us on a journey of poetic imagery and
humour through time and space, to share their personal stories and ancestral backgrounds. We had
a wonderful afternoon and if you would like to see the performance, there are some spaces available
this evening at Lancing College. The performance starts at 7.30pm.
We had an Environmental Health Inspection of our catering this week and were awarded a 5 star
rating again! Well done to Steve Skinns and his team!
Huge congratulations to Alex B (Year 8) who came 11th overall in the prestigious National
Townsend Warner History Prize. This is an extraordinary result and we are very proud of him. Alex
M (Year 7) was placed 107th out of the 500 who made it through to the second round, which is also
an excellent result, and we have high hopes for him next year. Well done to both Alexs!

Next week is our final week of term and it feels remarkable that we are now two thirds of the way
through this academic year! A reminder that there are no LPW Prep and Pre-prep clubs next week
with the exception of the auditions for Joseph on Thursday, 22nd from 4.15 to 5.15pm. The children
are exhausted and need to get home a little earlier than usual. On Friday, 23 March, there is no
homework room or Wraparound and the school will close at 4.00pm. Normal finishing times.
Next week, Prep will have an Easter Service at St Mary’s Church at 3.00pm. Parents and grandpar-
ents are warmly invited to attend.
Yesterday evening's musical and dramatic soirée was an incredibly moving occasion and I was
very proud of all the children who performed. The standards of performance here are rising
breathtakingly quickly and the children delighted us with their talents and enthusiasm. My thanks
to the children and their teachers who make such a good team!
I hope you all have a very happy weekend. Best wishes

CULTURE CLUB
Calling all David Walliams’ Fans: 4 Free tickets to see the SOLD OUT performance of Gangsta
Granny!
This week I have some very exciting tickets to give away. We have 4 tickets to see a theatrical pro-
duction of Gangsta Granny, at the Pavilion Theatre, on Friday 20th April at 6.30pm. What better way
to finish off the Easter holidays? I would dearly love these to go to a family or families, who love his
books. Therefore in addition to some pictures of you on the day, I would also like the lucky winners
to write a review of their trip.
“It’s Friday night and Ben knows that means only one thing – staying with Granny! There will be
cabbage soup, cabbage pie and cabbage cake and Ben knows one thing for sure – it’s going to be
sooooooooo boring! But what Ben doesn’t know is that Granny has a secret – and Friday nights are
about to get more exciting than he could ever imagine, as he embarks on the adventure of a lifetime
with his very own Gangsta Granny!”
If you are available on this date, and would like your child’s name put in the hat, please could you
send a short email to [email protected]. Mrs Beeby will pull names from the hat on Monday
and I will give the winning child their tickets to take home in their school bag. When emailing,
please do say if you would be prepared to accept 2 tickets (for one adult and one child) as this
would enable two of our families to attend. However, if you are a family of 4, and would like all the
tickets, that is also fine. As long as your name is pulled from the hat first…they will be yours.

First Team Hockey v Handcross Park School
The Senior boys enjoyed a mini-tournament at Handcross Park School. We started the afternoon off
well, winning the first game 1-0 with a superbly executed goal by Jack B late in the game. Our
dominance continued as LPW won the following game, with both goals coming down the left
which lead both Ethan F and William T to score easily. Handcross Park then started to play some
super hockey and won the third game 0-2. In the final game, the boys bounced back to win. A
superb afternoon of hockey. Well done! Players of the match: Charlie J and James N
Mr Richards
LPW v LPH
On Open Morning on Saturday, the Years 5 and 6 colts who kindly gave up their time to come in
and show off the school in action played against LPH.
In the first half, the game was very tight. Both teams scored well-worked goals. LPW took the lead
through Albert M with a brilliant finish to a multiple-pass move. LPH soon equalised and then
went 2-1 up. LPW went level again at 2-2 when Will O’B got himself a goal. In the second-half, the
game continued to be hotly-contested. Soon, the game was 3-3 and LPW continued to impress.
LPH stepped it up a gear and went 4-3 and then very quickly 5-3 in front. LPW pushed to get back
in the game but another goal from LPH sealed the win. There were some really strong
performances in the team, but none stronger than that of Louis R-B between the sticks for LPW so
he was player of the match. He received high-praise from Mr Price at LPH and myself at the final-
whistle. A fine goalkeeper in the making!
Colts v Sion
The Colts football teams played against Sion away on Wednesday. The red team played extremely
well and won 6-2 with goals from Will O’B (3), Marley R, Sam G and Cal N. Player of the match
was Riley T for his movement with the ball, turns and for linking up so well with his team mates.
The blue team also won. They were part of a far tighter match that was neck-and-neck until the
end of the match. Eventually, they won 6-4. Goals came from Oliver S (2), Dom F, Oscar S Louis B
and Albert M. Harry R’s defensive performance stood out and therefore, he was the player of the
match. Harry made some vital challenges at the back to prevent Sion from scoring more goals.

U9/8 Netball v Dorset House Won 12–3
On Tuesday a mixed U8/9 team played a mixed Dorset house team. We started extremely well pass-
ing the ball accurately and thinking about creating space. Yasmin worked hard in the D scoring 4
goals and Autumn scored a super goal to make it 5-0 at the end of the first quarter. We moved some
of our players around and continued to work on our passing to make sure it was ahead of the play-
er. Grace made some outstanding interceptions to keep Dorset House from scoring many goals. This
continued for the whole game. We had great team work and focus with good contributions from all.
Well done! Thank you to the parents who came to support us. Player of the Game: Grace W
U12/13 Netball v Dorset House Won 14–8
This was a fantastic game where the girls worked hard as a team. They thought about where the ball
needed to go, who was free and found a space. Anna and Erin W made some fantastic interceptions
in the defence end. Lucia was amazing with her shooting, scoring most of the 14 goals from all
different areas in the circle. It was great to see the team work and team spirit in this game. Well
done to all the girls who played and to the parents who came to support us. Player of the game:
Anna W
U9 v Shoreham College Won 7 -2
On Thursday a mixed U8/9 team played against Shoreham College. We started well scoring 2 goals.
The girls worked hard to pass accurately and release the ball quickly to the next person. In the sec-
ond quarter we defended well but were unable to score. As the game went on we made some lovely
interceptions and scored another 5 goals. The girls played really well as a team and deserved a good
result. Well done to all the girls who played and thank you to the parents who came to support us.

Mrs Fudge
U8 Netball v Shoreham U8/9 Lost 9-1
Our U8s tried extremely hard to pass the ball accurately to each other, although Shoreham were just
slightly quicker than our girls. Our defenders made some lovely interceptions but just couldn’t
make them count. Well done girls for keeping your spirits high throughout the whole game. Thank
you to the parents who came to support us. Girl of the game: Beth K
