Weekly Broadsheet
Autumn Term
8 December 2017
www.lancingprepworthing.co.uk
Dear Parents,
What a wonderful time we had last Friday at the LPWA Christmas Fair! I loved the new
arrangements with stalls for the adults in the gym and activities for the children in our dining hall.
We had space to breathe and chat and see all the wonderful things on display, Santa was a hit and
the raffle prizes, as always, were magnificent. My warm and sincere thanks to the hard working
members of the LPWA for making our Christmas Fair such a happy occasion.
The whole week has been full of celebration; on Wednesday the prep school travelled to Lancing
College for a joint carol service with Lancing Prep at Hove. The setting was beautiful, the children
behaved perfectly, the choirs sang with great charm and the readers told the Christmas story
beautifully. Before the service, the Concert Band, CSI (clarinet and saxophones) and the violin
ensemble entertained an appreciative audience who enjoyed mince pies while they were waiting!
Thank you for your support on this happy morning.
On Thursday morning it was the turn of the pre-prep children to delight their parents with their
version of the Christmas story, this year featuring a busy midwife and her friend, Steve the donkey,
who were desperately trying to find the palace where a new king was to be born. The children acted
and sang their way through this very engaging and funny story and their parents were thrilled to
see them performing with such confidence. I truly thought I would get to the end without tears this
time but it was not to be! I always find small children, Christmas carols and happy parents terribly
moving. Thank you for your support for your children.
Thursday also saw the Saxons enjoying their house treat for this term. The Saxons continue to collect
more house points than the other houses but I feel sure that with a real effort, another house could
win next time! Well done Saxons, I hope you enjoyed the new Paddington film.
On Thursday evening we had a Culture Club event and lots of our families went to watch Snow
White at the Pavilion Theatre in Worthing. It was a wonderful evening with lots of laughter!
Friday arrived and with it the Nursery Christmas play. This is one of my favourite events of the
academic year. I am full of admiration for our Nursery staff who manage to encourage their small
charges to sing and dance and enjoy telling the Christmas story. Our smallest children in the school
benefit hugely from being part of a larger community and being such precious members of our
school. Thank you for your enthusiastic standing ovation!
Next week is incredibly busy and we will send you a separate letter to ensure that you are fully
informed and can plan accordingly. I look forward to seeing you all next week and hope you have a
happy weekend.
Best wishes,
@LancingPrepWthg

Orchestra will run at the normal time of 8.15am next Tuesday. We will also have an additional
rehearsal on Wednesday 13 December at 12.00pm, so could all pupils involved please remember to
bring in their instruments on Wednesday as well as Tuesday. We will use this time to prepare for
our performance in Worthing at the carol singing on Friday 15 December at 2.30pm.
Carol Singing in Montague Place
On Friday 15 December at 2.30pm all pupils in Years 3 to 8 will be singing carols around the
Christmas tree in Montague Place in town. As a part of this all orchestra, violin ensemble, CSI
students and concert band members will perform their Christmas pieces and so it is essential that
these pupils bring in their instruments into school on Friday.

On Tuesday 12 December, Year 4 will spend their music lesson at Berkeley Care Home in Worthing
singing to residents. Any pupils who also play an instrument are encouraged to bring their
instruments and a piece of their choice to perform too.

Under 9 v Sompting Abbotts Won 5-0
The boys played their last football fixture of the term against Sompting Abbotts School, and the
boys showed how much they have improved since September. Great positional awareness as the
boys played some excellent pass-and-move football. Excellent team work throughout the game.
They won with ease, with Seb G scoring a hat-trick. A superb way to end the term. Well done to all
the boys involved. Player of the match: the whole team
First team v Sompting Abbotts Won 6-3
The boys played some excellent football during the course of the game, particularly in the first half
where they raced into a commanded lead. Fantastic three and two touch football was displayed,
and hence some fine team goals were scored as a result. The boys eased off a little in the second
half, allowing Sompting to score towards the end of the game. Otherwise, a performance that the
boys should feel proud of. A fantastic team effort. Player of the match: Jack B

Red Colts v Sompting Abbotts Won 10-2
Blue Colts v Sompting Abbotts Won 6-2
The red and blue Colts teams took on Sompting Abbotts at home on Wednesday. Both teams
produced stunning results to end the football calendar on a high.
The red team won by an astounding 10 goals to 2. They were 7-0 up at half-time with goals from
Will O’B, Riley T (hat-trick) and Cal N. The boys continued the rout after half-time, despite a
complete change in team. Marley R and Louis B scored LPW’s three second-half goals. Player of
the match was Will O’B for an incredible pass through to Riley T for one goal and for grabbing two
of his own.
The blue team also played really well, winning 6-2. Jack S starred with another great performance.
He scored the first goal of the game with a magnificent glancing header. Oscar S also played
incredibly well and was on the score sheet. LPW were 4-0 up at half-time. In the second-half,
Sompting fought back and scored quickly after the game re-started. However, Jack S completed a
hat-trick to seal the win before Oscar S added another. Isaac R was player of the match for yet
another good performance at the back, making some fine passes and tackles. Isaac is becoming a
very tidy defender who does a great job in the position he has been playing.
