The 4-H summer calendar and events are here! Livestock events, camps and fairs are all here or just around the corner.
We had a great turnout for the livestock showmanship clinic at the fairgrounds. Seven of the eight clubs were
represented, with 42 members participating. I believe we accomplished the objective of helping the younger members
feel more confident about showing their animals during the coming fair season.
Achievement Day is always fun and was a success again this year. Thanks to all the judges and volunteers whom made
this event possible. I always have several members and parents who comment later that they would like to participate
but are unsure of what they need to do to prepare. If you are a club leader, let’s put this on the meeting agenda for next
fall and get everyone better trained about what achievement day is and increase involvement.
State Congress was in Columbia on the MU campus in early June. I know this three day event would be great for our
older youth that are leaders in their clubs to start attending. This event connects our local youth with the MU campus,
4-H members from all across Missouri and really is a leadership and citizenship training that Laclede County is just flat
missing out on. Let’s identify some local youth that are going to be 14-17 years old next year and encourage them to
attend.
Much congratulations to Kyla Marlin and Victoria Janacek for being selected to represent Laclede County and Missouri
at 4-H National Congress in November. They are two of twenty one members from across the state of Missouri selected
in interviews before State Congress last week. What a nice honor for them to be selected from a field of highly qualified
applicants. Filling out those recognition forms does pay off.
Matt Lambeth and Victoria Janacek will be leaving for the Washington DC trip in mid-June. We wish them both the
best and will be anxious to hear about their Citizenship Washington Focus trip when they return.
We had a really good council meeting in early June. We voted to increase the reimbursement for regional, state and
national trips, camps and activities from 50% to 75% starting on August 1, 2015. We have the resources now and this
should really be a help to both members and parents to encourage their youngsters to start attending more regional and
state events like those I have mentioned above.
The Laclede County Fair is almost here. Conference judging is on Thursday July 2nd from 4-8 pm and the Mid-MO
Horse Circuit Laclede County Show is on July 5th starting at 5 pm. These are both first time additions to our fair week.
I know we will have over 100 Laclede County 4-H members exhibit something at the Laclede County Fair again this
year.

Thank you Sam for rewarding our success . . .
We were #1 in paper clover sales in the state of Missouri!!
Vickie Moss and Paul DuBose volunteered several hours selling clovers and were rewarded as the official
pie throwers. As you can tell in this photo, they really enjoyed smashing a pie in Sam’s face, and Kim
had a chance to get in on the fun too. Charlie Cooper, TSC Team Leader informed us if we made
over $2500 in the fall campaign, that she would let us throw pie in her face.

Congratulations . . .
Victoria Janacek, Country Kids Horse Club, and Kyla Marlin, Laclede County Teen Leadership Club, were
selected as delegates to National 4-H Congress during State 4-H Congress June 3-5, 2015. Twenty-one
delegates will represent Missouri at the National 4-H Congress in Atlanta, GA November 27-December 1,
2015. Selection for this trip combines scores from a written recognition form and interview. Attendance at
National 4-H Congress is a culminating event for many 4-H’ers and a highly sought after award.
The National 4-H Congress experience provides an opportunity for 4-H members from across the country to
come together and learn about community involvement, culture, diversity, and service to others while
meeting new friends and experiencing Atlanta, Georgia.

Second Annual 4-H Showmanship Clinic
Forty-two 4-Hers participated in the second annual showmanship clinic on May 30th. This clinic helped
members get themselves and their animals ready for the upcoming fair season. Members were instructed on
showmanship, fair preparation and fitting and grooming techniques.
Twenty-six members received a donated item of show equipment as a reward for their finish in the contests
from the clinic. Top showmanship in each group were: Beef Experienced, Linsey Rogers; Beef Novice,
Karley Rumfelt; Swine Experienced, Ella Johnson and Cameron Moore; Swine Novice, Rory Jenkins;
Sheep and Goat Experienced, Logan Archer; Sheep and Goat Novice, Hailey Anthony. In the judging
contest the top winners were: Jocelyn Newell, 7 and under; Tory Miller, 8-10 yrs; Taylor Miller, 11-13 yrs;
Linsey Rogers, 14 and up. Thank you to the Livestock Judging and Show Clinic Committee members and to
all of the volunteers and 4-Hers who helped make this clinic a fun and educational experience for the youth.

Get a head start on completing your end of year and project record forms. Report forms are due August 31st to
the Extension Office; Remember each completed project form will need to have a 4-H story and pictures in-
cluded. Forms are fillable online and can be found at

Laclede and Dallas Counties 4-H Achievement Day was held recently at LifePoint Church in Lebanon with thirty-six youth participating. Achievement Day is one of the highlights of the 4-H year. It provides members with an opportunity to show what they’ve learned as well as learn from other members. It’s a great time to practice some skills that so many adults wished they had learned when they were younger! The day began with an assembly for opening remarks and pledges to the American and 4-H flag led by Paul DuBose, Trail Blazers club member, and Justin Morgan, Barn Bums club member. Demonstration/Illustrated category was judged by Joyce Massey and Susan Kromrie. Demonstrations are a three to five minute explanation of a process, whether making something or doing something that that uses props and the presenter demonstrates the process while speaking. Each youth chose their demonstration which related to one of the projects in which they were enrolled. Blue ribbons - Ashleigh Christensen, Joseph Coryell, Rachel Coryell, Hannah Curtis, Shelby Donovan, Justin Morgan and Theresa Peirano; Red ribbons - Griffon Bakeburg, Haley Bakeburg, Kaeleigh Christensen, Lesleigh Christensen, Emma Dampier, Lacey Lemons and Stacey Lemons. In addition, Ashleigh Christensen, Joseph Coryell, Rachel Coryell, Hannah Curtis, Shelby Donovan, Justin Morgan and Theresa Peirano were chosen to go on to the state level with their demonstra-tions. Public Speaking category was judged by Cindy Anglen and Scott Shumate. Terri Anglen, Shelby Donovan, Victoria Janacek and Kyla Marlin received blue ribbons for their speeches and were chosen to be given at the State 4-H Public Speaking Contest in September. Clover Kids –Riki Allison and Barbara Long led the Clover Kids group, Thomas Lemons, Sam McKimmey and Charlie Schafer received green ribbons for participation in the various categories.

Achievement Day Event Continued Personal Development category was judged by Charlie Cooper, Dana Morgan and Tammy McKimmey. 4-H members and Clover Kids are encouraged to prepare ahead of time to present an oral ‘resume’ one-on-one to an adult. This allows the youth to build skills in self expression and poise in a non-threatening environment. This is a very good preparation for many things later in life, such as job or college entrance interviews. Blue ribbons were earned by Terri Anglen, Haley Bakeburg, Ashleigh Christensen, Kaeleigh Christensen, Lesleigh Christensen, Rachel Coryell, Shelby Donovan, Emma Dampier, Victoria Janacek, Ella Johnson, Patricia Kromrie, Rebekah Kromrie, Madeline McKimmey, Kyla Marlin, Justin Morgan, Theresa Peirano and Emily Whipple; Red ribbons were earned by Griffon Bakeburg, Joseph Coryell, Hannah Curtis, Lacey Lemons, Stacey Lemons, Talia Kromrie, Cody McKimmey and Kaylie Nichols. Fashion Revue category was judged by LaRita Pope. In this category the participant will be asked questions about their outfit, i.e. type of fabric, stitching and difficulty of pattern. Blue ribbons were earned by Emma Dampier, Abbey Twenter and Halle Twenter. They modeled their garments during the closing ceremony. Judging tables were set up for judging for the projects of Cake Decorating; Horses; Livestock Judging; Robotics and Shooting Sports. Judges were Sarah DuBose, Ben Kromrie, Brian McKimmey, Pat Shumate and Kelly Whipple. Each category has at least one group of four samples to rate from best to worst. Then each must give reasons for their placement. This teaches critical thinking skills and the ability to know why a certain choice is made. Following are the categories and ribbons earned: Cake Decorating Project: Blue ribbons – Lesleigh Christensen, Rachel Coryell, Madeline McKimmey, Kaylie Nichols and Theresa Peirano; Red ribbons – Terri Anglen, Ashleigh Christensen, Kaeleigh Christensen, Hannah Curtis, Emma Dampier, Paul DuBose, Stacey Lemons, Lacey Lemons and Lindsey Miller. A huge thank you goes to Joanne Roberts and the Achievement Day Committee for organizing this event and to everyone who helped with snacks, judging tables, registration, etc.
Thirty 4-H members participated in a three-day horse camp that was held at the Lebanon Saddle Club on June
10—12, 2015. The main purpose of the camp is to improve the student's skills in horse showing so that they
can participate in the Mid-Mo Horse Circuit. The camp offered more advanced training, such as tack and
equipment, hoof care and feeding. Other topics covered included western pleasure, horsemanship and show-
manship. The campers had more opportunities to ride horses and learn horsemanship skills.
A HUGE thank you to the Brian and Tammy McKimmey, Pat and Scott Shumate, Jenny Donovan, Horse
Camp committee members, youth helpers and all the volunteers who helped make this year’s horse camp a
fun learning experience for our youth.

Having a blast at 4-H Robotics Summer Camp . . .
Seventeen youth are participating in the 4-H Robotics Camp this summer. They are having a
lot of fun with their camp instructor, Mr. Karl McKimmey, Lebanon Fifth Grade Teacher and
LEGOS/Robotics Coach. They are using the LEGOs EV3s and challenge kits with practice tables.
Youth are not only having fun but also learning by practicing problem solving and using math-
ematical abilities at this camp. Thank you Sarah DuBose for organizing this event!!

Demonstration or a Contest?
Registration opens 6/15 in 4HOnline

The State Fair 4-H Building Demonstration and
Contest registration will be done through the
4HOnline System this year. Demonstrators get to pick
their own time this year! Contest times are determined
by the contest sponsor and confirmed in a letter to
families on or shortly after August 1st.
An online training site has been developed to help
families know how to register their eligible 4-H
member for State Fair Demonstrations and Contests.
The online, self-paced training site includes a
Resources link with downloadable help files. There is
a short, one-page guide and also an expanded guide
with screenshots. The State Fair 4-H Building registra-
tion will be open in 4HOnline beginning June 15th
and go until August 1st.
In addition, a list of demonstration dates and times will
be posted to the Missouri 4-H State Fair page at
http://4h.missouri.edu/go/events/statefair/ and updated
until the State Fair begins on August 13th.

Clover Kids Corner
Through Clover Kids clubs, children learn how to get along, share, and work in groups,
explore their interests, and build self-confidence. Each Clover Kids Corner provides an
activity, information or other materials that Clover Kids leaders can use in planning and
implementing experiences that introduce five to seven-year olds to the 4-H concept of
learning by doing.

Target Date to open: Registration & Scheduling via MO Online is 6 pm, June 15
Registration ends: Midnight, Monday, July 20.
Registration and scheduling for the August 22-23 State Shoot events will be via MO 4-H Online. Again this
year, participants are to register AND select their choice of time during the online registration process. Yes,
participants will have the opportunity to choose a preferred time to shoot. BUT, as last year, there are only so
many pre-determined number of openings for each time slot. When that time slot is full – you must select an-
other time. This is especially critical for Shotgunners.
To shoot as a full squad, at the same time, all 5 squad members must select the same time slot – keep-
ing in mind that when time slot is full – it’s full. So, the wise thing to do is to get together – on day 1,
and register as quickly as possible, so all 5 will get the same time slot. Do not put all your trap shooters
(if more than 5) at the same time, because that will result in the shooters being on different fields at the
same time.
If shooting Archery and Trap, you must shoot archery on Sunday, August 23 - because you will be 120
miles away at the Trap Shoot on Saturday. If you delay in registering and selecting a preferred time;
you may find there are no open slots on Sunday.
If shooting both singles and double trap, be sure to register early AND be mindful of the time of each
event. Give yourself plenty of time to shoot one event before scheduling the other. And remember,
some trap fields run behind time. Give yourself plenty of time when scheduling the 2 events.
There are limited number of slots for both Trap and Archery. If you want to make sure you have the
opportunity to shoot, don’t wait until the last minute…all the slots might be taken.
If all time slots are taken/reserved via registration, we believe we can create a waiting list. When/if
there are enough 4-Hers on the waiting list for Trap, to justify opening another field, we will. If not
enough numbers – then some will not get to shoot.
We reserve the right to change specified time slot, if necessary, to make efficient use of the trap
fields. This is a concern only if you are one of the last 30 or 40 to register. The system records when
registration is completed, so we will know who the last to register are.
Checks should be written to the county and then 1 check from the county sent to the state office. If paying by
credit card, that will be direct to the State 4-H Office.

Missouri 4-H Western Heritage & Cowboy Shooting Event - Gerry Snapp
Missouri 4-Hers and their families are strongly encouraged to register and participate in the 2015 National
4-H Western Heritage Conference & Cowboy Shooting event which takes place July 29-August 1. The
Missouri state event is run in conjunction with the national event this year. We really need a good showing of
Missouri 4-H families, so please take a moment and look at what the national conference offers:
http://www.4-hwesternheritageproject.org/2015-national-conference.html . For those that cannot participate
in the 4-day national event, there is an option to participate only in the Friday and Saturday competitions, July
31-August 1. Registration is now open for the Missouri Western Heritage event via MO 4-H Online. Both
the National and the State events are available for registration, so be careful which one you select. The $75
fee per person include 2 meals Friday, 2 meals Saturday (including the national awards banquet), ammuni-
tion, and the Period Clothing, Western Knowledge, and Cowboy Action Shooting competitions. You will be
competing as a national competitor, as well as a state competitor. You will be eligible for Missouri state
awards and the national WH awards.

Missouri State Horsemanship Show Location Correction - Bob McNary
The games for the for the Missouri State Fair Horsemanship Show for 4-H/FFA will be held in the Coliseum,
not in the MFA Arena as posted in the premium guide.
Show Me 4-H Wares at the State Fair— Steve Henness
The 8th Annual Show Me 4-H Wares sales booth is accepting applications for
young entrepreneurs to sell their 4-H products and services at the Missouri State
Fair on August 13, 14, 15 or 16, 2015.
Any 4-H member age 11-18, pair of 4-H members (biz buddies), or group of up
to three 4-H members from the same club (team), is eligible to apply to market
or sell original products or services. Youth need not be currently enrolled in the 4-H entrepreneurship project
to participate, although these members, along with youth participating in county fair sales booths, are highly
encouraged to apply!
Register to be a youth exhibitor at the Missouri State Fair this summer. Apply online between May 1-July 1,
or until all booth slots are filled. Up to 16 youth exhibitors, buddies, and/or teams will be selected to sell
during four days. Selected youth will be notified by July 15 and invited to participate in a conference call on
