Naonal Night Out August 4. This annual event hosted by
Metropolitan Police Department to strengthen community rela
between MPD and DC residents. MOLA Director Reyes and her
outreach sta worked a booth at 18th
and Columbia Road NW o
Suntrust Plaza in support of this year’s Naonal Night Out.

El evento anual presentado por el Departamento de la Policía
Metropolitana (MPD, por sus siglas en inglés) ene el propósito
de fortalecer las relaciones entre MPD
residentes de DC. La directora Jackie Reyes y algunos miembros
del equipo de alcance comunitario d
Ocina del Alcalde para Asuntos Lanos dieron información en un
espacio público en la esquina de la
Columbia Road y la calle 18, en la plaza de Suntrust, en apoyo a
la iniciava de Naonal Night Out de
año.

20. At the call of Mayor M
Bowser, Director Reyes, Deputy and the personnel of the Oce on
Lano Aairs aended the Mayor’
conference on guns at the Kennedy Recreaon Center. Aerwards,
they worked with the Mayor’s tea
canvas Columbia Heights. The following day some members of the
outreach team canvassed other
neighborhood areas in NW DC.

Al siguiente día, el equipo de alca

noroeste de la ciudad.
Mayor Bowser Slow Down Campaign August 24.
MMOLA Director Reyes, her Deputy and outreach sta
parcipated in the Mayor’s Slow Down Campaign the rst
day back to school. The purpose of this event was to raise
awareness about driving safely on the street and slowing
down when children are crossing the street on their way to
school.

MOLA SUMMER YOUTH EMPLOYMENT
Summer Youth Mock Hearing August 7. Agroup of summer youth
parcipated in a mock hearing at the Wilson
building hosted by MMOLA. The youth chose to talk about the
illegal
selling of synthec drugs that is a serious problem in DC. The
Youth
mentored by our MOLA intern Tony Donaldson served as Chair,
Councilmember’s and Witnesses, draed quesons and tesmony and
did a superb job. 125 youth from the summer youth employment
program aended this event in support of their peers. Special
thanks to:CM Ward 1 Brianne Nadeau, CM Anita Bonds , MPD ,DOES ,
Dept., of
Behavioral health and DPR.
Simulación de Audiencia del Consejo municipal para el
Programa de Verano para Jóvenes – 7 de
agosto
Un grupo de jóvenes participaron en una audiencia en el edificio
Wilson
presentado por la Oficina del Alcalde para Asuntos Latinos. Los
jóvenes
seleccionaron el tema de los riesgos de la venta de drogas
sintéticas en
DC. Los jóvenes fueron guiados en su diálogo por nuestro pasante
enMOLA, Tony Donaldson, quien lideró la simulación, mientras que
los
estudiantes en el papel de concejales y testigos desarrollaron
preguntas ytestimonios, realizando un extraordinario trabajo. Un
total de 125
miembros del programa de trabajo de verano para jóvenes
participaronen este evento en apoyo a sus colegas. Agradecimientos

distrito Uno Brianne Nadeau, Concejal Anita Bonds, MPD ,DOES ,
Dept.,
of Behavioral health and DPR.

Ceremonia de Clausura del Programa de Trabajo de Verano
para Jóvenes – 7 de agosto
La Oficina del Alcalde para Asuntos Latinos fue el anfitrión de
la
_Ceremonia de Clausura del Programa de Trabajo de Verano
para Jóvenes en el edifico municipal Reeves Center . Hubo
un total de 125 jóvenes participantes en este evento y
recibieron sus constancias departicipación en el programa.
¡Felicitamos a todos los jóvenes que
participaron en el programa de este año! Esperamos que el
próximo año
nos podamos encontrar de nuevo.
COMMUNITY OUTREACH
La Luz de Mundo Food Distribuon August 11. MOLA’s
outreach team gave out food to 50 families at La Luz de Mundo
located at
1222 Rhode Island Avenue NW; and on August 13, MOLA’s Outreach
team
gave out food to 150 families at the Church of Christ.

El equipo de alcance comunitario de la Oficina del Alcalde para

Latinos, entregó comida a 50 familias en la iglesia La Luz del
Mundo, que
se localiza en el 1222 de la Avenida Rhode Island, en el
noroeste de la
ciudad. El 13 de agosto, el equipo de alcance comunitario
distribuyó
comida a 150 familias en la Iglesia de Cristo.
ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT
MISSION ZERO CONTINUED…
MOLA/DMV Pre-screening event August 8 and August 22.
MOLA and the DMV partnered and hosted a pre-screening event
at
MOLA. The purpose of this event was to give Lano residents to
have
their documents pre-
screened so they could make an appointment to goto the DMV and
get a Limited Purpose Driver’s License ID. On August 8 –
MOLA served 168 constuents and on August 22 MOLA served 244
constuents.

La Ocina del Alcalde para Asuntos Lanos y el Departamento de
Vehículos Motorizados de DC (DMV, por sus siglas en inglés)
organizaron
un evento para hacer una revisión preliminar de documentos en
las
ocinas de MOLA. El objevo
de esta acvidad fue darle a
los residentes Lanos la
oportunidad de vericar sus
documentos antes de asisr a
su cita en el DMV y así tener
más oportunidades para
obtener la idencación o
licencia de conducir de
propósitos limitado. El 8 de
agosto, la Ocina del Alcalde
para Asuntos Lanos
proporcionó información a un
total de 168 personas y el 22
de agosto un total de 244
personas recibieron la información. ¡Qué gran trabajo
realizaron!

Block Party August 15. MOLA Director
Reyes had fun participating in Mayor Muriel Bowser’s end of
summer block
party celebrating community at the Emmanuel Baptist Church
located in SE.
It was a beatutiful day and this event included food,
refreshments, and
entertainment.

Emmanuel, localizada en suroeste de la ciudad. Fue un hermoso
día que
incluyó comida, bebidas y diverdo entretenimiento.
EDUCATION
Tamales and Café August 6. La Clinica del Pueblo, who is one of
MOLA’s
grantees hosted Tamales and Café . MOLA Director Reyes
enjoyed
attending this event and meeting with the Director. Staff gave
tours of their
office space and shared information about their services.

DCPS-Japan Exchange Presentaon August 6. MOLA Deputy
Director
Josue Salmeron and LA Dr. Cecilia Casllo gave a presentaon to a
group of
exchange students with a program called Globalize DC/CGEL from
Japan.
The purpose of the presentaon was to share informaon on the role
that
Oce on Lano Aairs has in the Lano Community in DC and the role
that
government plays in life. The program coordinator sent a very
nice thank
you note and photos included here.

US—Japón – 6 de agosto El subdirector, Josué Salmerón y la

Casllo dieron una presentación al grupo de estudiantes de
intercambio del
programa Globalize DC/CGEL de Japón. El propósito de la
presentación fue
comparr información sobre el
papel que ene la Ocina del Alcalde
para Asuntos Lanos dentro del
gobierno del Distrito y dentro de la
comunidad y para comparr el papel
que desempeña el gobierno en la
vida diaria de sus habitantes. El
coordinador del programa de
intercambio comparó algunas fotos
y una nota de agradecimiento que se
incluye aquí también.

provide
construcon classes taught in Spanish. Classes begin on September

HOUSING - CNHED Open House August 11. MOLA Director
Reyes
aended an Open House hosted by the Coalion for Non-
prot HousingEconomic Development at their new oce on 15
th Street NW. The Coali
invited guests to celebrate with them victories achieved in the
passing o
this year’s budget that includes increased funding for the
Housing
Producon Fund. This is a key victory because the fund connues to
buil
out aordable housing units across the city.

y Desarrollo Económico (CNHED, por sus siglas en inglés) –

Jackie Reyes, la directora de MOLA, asisó a un evento de

de la ciudad. La coalición extendió una invitación para celebrar
con ellos
éxitos como la aprobación de su presupuesto anual que incluye el
aume
de los fondos para la creación de vivienda. Esta ha sido una

porque los fondos ayudarán a la connua construcción de
viviendas
accesibles en toda la ciudad.

CELEBRATES WOMEN’S EQUALITY DAY - #DCwomen
FRESH START SPOTLIGHT: MOLA’s Grantee
City Blossoms is one of MOLA’s grantees that provide
Latino’s services in the community.
“As we continue to work with Cardozo students towards the
development of their garden
program and space we get to see more and more of the
knowledge that participants are
bringing from their past experiences in the U.S. and their
home countries. These
experiences are also physically starting to shape the gardens.
For example Daniel is a 16
year old participant from Guatemala. When it was time for us to
begin planting summer
crops Daniel shared how he was taught to grow tomatoes. A
technique that is new to City
Blossoms but definitely has the potential of creating a better
support for tomato plants. The technique was used for all the
tomato
seedlings in the garden. This was a wonderful opportunity for
Daniel to be proud of his skills which at times may not seem
applicable to his life in DC and for the Cardozo space to start
reflecting its gardeners.” Dr. R oane -Cardozo’s Principal

Mayor MURIEL BOWSER Birth day Bash—Latinos invitees
Brandon Perez: A native Washingtonian (Puerto Rican Heritage)
who holds a Bachelors and
Master’s degree in Science in Architecture from The Catholic
University of America.
He is currently working in the Office of Planning as Bilingual
Development Review Planner II -intern.
Due to his skills, Brandon has also helped with the Historic
Preservation Board , BZA, Sustainable D.C.
and Urban Design working on the following projects; reinvestment
plan for the Historic District of An-acostia and EcoDistrict in
Congress Heights. He found out about the internship through the
MOLA Bi -
weekly employment newsletter.
“I’m a unique individual who is passionate about the built
environment, and always awe inspired by the
natural. I have a plethora of interests, and a fascination for
the Japanese Culture. I like to read, ride my
bike along the Capital Crescent Trail, and photograph
