These restorations required a huge amount of work while respecting the heritage aspect under the vigilant eye of the Federal Commission for Historic Monuments. Therefore, old windows, horse feeders and other typical cobbled courtyards had to be preserved in order to represent a source of historical and architectural information for future generations. This historical, heritage and architectural setting has made La Pastorale a privileged place to host one of the editions of the Mix & Mash, an initiative of the UNOG and the City of Geneva which the CAGI has been associated with since 2016. The theme of this event on the international , Swiss and local Heritage could not have found a more emblematic and representative venue for Geneva's heritage than La Pastorale. Thus in June 2019, hundreds of people met various organisations and associations attending the event to promote their activities related to the preservation of heritage. Another restoration of La Pastorale is planned for Autumn 2020, which will also enable this 19th century building to regain all its glory. The work will once again prove that local heritage and modern facilities can coexist harmoniously. The CAGI will finally return to its newly renovated areas to continue its mission of hosting Internationals, organising conferences and events. Since the construction of the Palais des Nations, the Saconnex hillside has become the Headquarters of International Geneva. However, this building had to undergo major restoration work in order to accommodate the International Geneva Welcome Centre (CAGI) and the Swiss Press Club. This work was carried out by two architects, Urs Tschumi and François Dugerdil, who emphasised at the time that "the international sector is one of the only sectors where real estate investments are planned or under way. These are the first results of the settlement of the WTO in Geneva". Since then, La Pastorale has been part of a land that continues to host conferences and events, hence contributing to the good functioning of International Geneva. Did you know that Nikita Khrushchev stayed in the mansion in 1954 while his guards slept in vaulted cellars? The owner had this house built facing the lake. The estate is complemented by outbuildings with a regional theme in reference to Bernese farms. ‘The CAGI's house: between local heritage and International Geneva La Pastorale Built between 1831 and 1836 by the architect Marc-François Brolliet for the officer Eugène de Budé, La Pastorale was the summer residence of a patrician family from Geneva.
