What a great week for “Kulin City”.
People everywhere, playing bowls, Night Walk’s through history and a general relaxed camping area at the Race Track.
My apologies for not having a report in last weeks Update. Missed the deadline as I was still asleep until Wednesday.
Congratulations to everyone who contributed in any way to a very successful, trouble free week. It is such a privilege to
be part of a dedicated and committed team of volunteer workers. The rewards in accolades and finance will further
enhance Kulin’s reputation as a “can do” community.
I think the following email sums up what this community has achieved.

“I have attended many events and festivals and had the pleasure in managing some of them, but I have to admit I
have never seen an event so well managed by a group of volunteers in all my life. It proved on thing, people who work
on the land know what hard work is all about. Well done to everyone that worked at the Kulin Bush Races you are all
incredible and put on the best event I have ever been too.”
Camille.
Thank you all again.

Kulin Shire Council Elections
I am seeking election to the Kulin Shire Council and would appreciate your support with a
vote in the upcoming election on Saturday the 19TH
of October or with an absentee vote
prior.
For those who do not know me here is a brief outline.
I have lived in the Kulin Shire all my life and am married with 2 children at school in Kulin. I
am currently a member of the school board.
I have operated a transport business in town for the past 25 years and am keen to see Kulin
grow and prosper as a regional centre ensuring that we have the ability to attract and retain
new people to our shire.
For the past 14 years I have been actively involved in various transport industry associations
and a member of various advisory groups and committees both within W.A and nationally. I
was President of the Livestock and Rural Transporters Association of WA for 7 years and Vice
President of the national body for 4 years. During this time I have gained valuable experience
in dealing with local, state and federal governments as well as representing individual
members negotiating suitable outcomes.
I believe that as a shire we need to:
be protecting our local rail service;
encourage new support businesses to Kulin
continue expanding senior services
explore the benefits and risks with shire amalgamation
If I am given the opportunity to represent the Kulin community I believe that with my past
experience I will be able to make a positive contribution to Kulin and its residents.
Please contact me if you have any questions.

In the Zone! In the Zone! In the Zone! In the Zone!
The site works which have recently begun in the area parallel to Johnston Street are hard to miss.
This is all part of the new Visitor Discovery ZoneVisitor Discovery ZoneVisitor Discovery ZoneVisitor Discovery Zone landscaping project which will transform Kulin’s main street
precinct in to an area where locals and visitors can relax and recreate. It extends from the Community Resource
Centre down to the new Fuel Facility on Johnston Street.
The Visitor Discovery Zone is a significant development for the Kulin region for both the community and tourism.
It will showcase Kulin in a unique and informal way, giving visitors a sense of the region’s history and identity.
The reinvigoration of the area will continue to unfold over the coming months and once complete will include:
• Tin Horse Highway Interpretation AreaTin Horse Highway Interpretation AreaTin Horse Highway Interpretation AreaTin Horse Highway Interpretation Area – This will include a shelter with interpretive signage which presents
information, stories and history about the Bush Races and Tin Horse Highway.
• War Memorial War Memorial War Memorial War Memorial –––– Includes a memorial wall and area for ANZAC Day Services.
• Town Centre Park Town Centre Park Town Centre Park Town Centre Park –––– BBQ facilities, lawn area, picnic shelter and a low stage for outdoor performances.
• Interpretation Nodes Interpretation Nodes Interpretation Nodes Interpretation Nodes –––– a series of circular nodes throughout the zone, each with a different theme will give
locals and visitors an appreciation of Kulin’s history, culture and attractions.
• Drainage Drainage Drainage Drainage –––– The drains throughout the area will be rocked and revegetated to enhance both their function and
aesthetics.
• Gardens and Planting Gardens and Planting Gardens and Planting Gardens and Planting ---- A lot of effort has gone into ensuring that the plants which are planted in the Visitor
Discovery Zone are reflective of Kulin’s unique flora and suitable for our environment. Over 5000 plants
are expected to be placed in the area.
• RV Parking Area RV Parking Area RV Parking Area RV Parking Area –––– Kulin is an ‘RV Friendly Location’ which allows self-contained caravans and motorhomes to
park in the town overnight. The zone will specify an area where eligible vehicles can stay and enjoy our
fabulous town.
Works on the Visitor Discovery Zone are being undertaken primarily by Phoenix Landscaping and are
expected to be completed by June 2014. For any further information or questions, please contact Gen
Whisson at the Shire of Kulin PH: 9880 1204 email: [email protected]
Raspberry cheesecake ice-cream
• 1 x 1.25L ctn Vanilla ice-cream
• 240g raspberries (fresh or frozen) • 125g Granita biscuits
• 60g butter, melted
• 2 x 250g pkts cream cheese, at room temperature • 70g (1/3 cup) caster sugar
• 125ml (1/2 cup) thickened cream
1. Transfer the ice-cream to a large bowl. Set aside at room temperature to soften slightly.
2. Meanwhile, place the raspberries in a bowl and use a fork to coarsely mash.
3. Place the biscuits in the bowl of a food processor and process until finely crushed. Add the butter and process until almost combined. Transfer to a bowl and use your hands to mix until well combined.
4. Use an electric beater to beat the cream cheese and sugar in a bowl until smooth. Add the cream and beat until just combined.
5. Add the cream cheese mixture to the ice-cream and fold until well combined. Reserve 1/4 cup of the
biscuit mixture. Add the remaining biscuit mixture to the ice-cream mixture and fold until just combined. Add the mashed raspberries and fold to create a swirled effect.
6. Pour the mixture into a 6cm-deep, 20 x 10cm (base measurement) loaf pan. Sprinkle with the reserved biscuit mixture to evenly coat. Cover with plastic wrap or foil. Place in the freezer for 6 hours or
overnight, or until firm.
7. Remove the ice-cream from the fridge 5-10 minutes before serving to soften slightly. Scoop among serving bowls and serve immediately
