September brought the return of school: dresses repaired and ironed, shoes polished, and heads shaved. With the girls off to school every morning at 7am, and some not returning until 9:30pm, I only see them at meal times. This makes the days longer as I try to come up with things to keep busy around the home. Most recently I’ve been able to plant an orchard, start relaying the stone path up to the bathhouse, begin drawing out the map of the world, organize the storeroom, and dig a huge hole for food waste in the back lot. The favorite thing I have done by the girls’ standards is to get a picture of their sponsors on my computer. In the evenings they huddle around and just pore over the pictures in admiration and love. It doesn’t matter if it’s the same picture again and again. They tell me how beautiful their sponsor is or how much they love them. We are so excited about the progress being made at THE OLMALAIKA HOME – the new water tower is up and all the pipes have been put in and connected - now we are just needing the Sekenani Primary School’s solar water pump to be fixed or replaced and we will have good drinking water coming into a faucet right near the home. In the next few weeks we will have a sink installed up at the washrooms and a large mirror put up on the wall above the sink. We have our entire property (2 acres) fenced in and a little orchard started. In the next week or so the gate should be installed and the sign for the home put in out at the main road into the Maasai Mara National Reserve. We have had shelves made for the storage room and will be purchasing bins to keep the dried foods in. We will be putting in door “lips” on each of the outside entry ways to keep out little critters and creatures that like to visit the home and also keep the floor from flooding when we get heavy rainfall. We have faith that by next month we will be able to break ground for The OLMALAIKA Administrative Annex and currently have just over $20,000 that has come in for the building project. We still need just under $30,000 and we know that God already has a plan for that! When the annex is built we will be able to open the doors to THE OLMALAIKA HOME to 16 -24 more girls which will be so amazing!

If you are interested in helping to fund the annex please contact us as soon as possible.

From Kim’s heart…..

I cannot even begin to put into words how much each of you has touched my heart by the giving for THE OLMALAIKA HOME Annex! Each day I check the mail box and am so excited to get back inside to open up the envelopes! It feels like Christmas! Those letters with donations not only make a difference for so many young girls in Maasailand, but they are daily reminders to me to never give up or get discouraged! When we are all working together we really can make a difference and that difference will impact our entire world someday! Each of you is a voice for a little girl who is fearful and at the same time hopeful. She dreams of sitting in a classroom each day and believes if that dream will come true, someday she will teach other children. You are enabling her dreams to come true even though you might never have seen her little smiling face! October is mission trip month and we are blessed to able to provide seven clinics with both medical and dental care. I leave for Kenya on October 1st and can’t wait for the team to arrive! Thank you for all you do and continue to pray for us as we reach out to communities across Kenya. Kim xoxo
