Thank YOU! We are thrilled to share with you that we have received a grant of $6,400 from the IPA Foundation, headquartered in Louisville, KY. The IPA Foundations represents the more than 2600 professional pilots who fly in service of the United Parcel Service (UPS), the world’s largest transportation company. This will enable us to purchase mosquito nets for all of the girls’ beds at THE OLMALAIKA HOME, as well as fruit trees, vegetable plants for the garden, do some landscaping and finish putting up the fence and gate around our 2 acres. We are so grateful to the IPA Foundation for this generous grant. Remember that if you or someone you know has an employer with a charitable giving arm, we will be happy to assist in writing an application. Just contact us for more information. We also received $1,000 from the World Service Committee of the Cadillac Rotary Club to put toward a new portable dental unit for restorative care. A very special thank you goes out to Brock Arms, DDS, Traci Warner, RDH, and Glenn Verbuggee, the committee chair. June has been a busy month filled with school activities, homework, and a music festival. The secondary girls came home for a long weekend and plans are underway for a special “family day” on July 6th when all the girls families’ are invited to come spend the day at the home and we will enjoy an extra special meal (my apologies ahead of time to the two goats that will be part of the meal). We were saddened to have to send two girls home, because of poor choices that they each made. As a parent you pray for your children, you love them and protect them, but ultimately they have to make their own choices in life and for these two girls, they made choices that forced us into not being able to keep them at the home anymore. This week we are blessed to have Ashton at our home. She is from California and is in her third year of Social Work at Sacramento State University. She will be teaching up at the Sekenani Primary School in the mornings and working with the girls in the afternoons and evenings. She came to Kenya several weeks ago and has been volunteering at an orphanage near Nakuru and is just finishing up her stay in Kenya.

Current Projects/Needs

Administration Annex ~ We are currently using two rooms in The Olmalaika Home for the office and supplies, plus a room for the interns to work in. If we can raise $60,000.00 we will be able to build an Administration Annex right next to the home which will free up the two bedrooms in the home for 16 more girls. We have had several girls who have needed to move in but we just have not had the space for them. The annex will provide a place for interns to stay, plus an official office, storage area for supplies, counseling and tutoring rooms, plus a kitchen and bathroom with indoor plumbing.

If you would like to cover the cost of an entire room in

memory of someone, we would be more than glad to put

a special plaque on the door with “naming rights.”

Bunk Beds ~ We have filled all the beds with little girls and still need 13 more bunks built as we have faith that the funds for the annex will come in and we will be able to use the rooms now being used for the office and interns. Each bunk cost $235 and that includes transporting them down to the home from Nairobi.

Water Tank ~ We are needing to build a 10-foot tall steel water tower with a cement base to put our 3,500 litre water tank on, plus put in piping from the primary school’s tank to our home. It will keep us supplied with more water and better pressure. The cost is $1,300.

It is because of each of you that these girls are

safe and has the opportunity to go to school.

Thank you for making a difference ~

Letter from KimLetter from KimLetter from KimLetter from Kim

It has been an amazing month. There are days that your heart literally feels heavy with worry for the home and our other projects in Kenya, but I am so very thankful that even though my heart can feel heavy at times there are so many exciting and encouraging blessings each day.

Just when I start to wonder how we will get what we need or why something happened I am reminded that God has His hand of protection over us and I need not worry.

This week I leave for Kenya and its one of my favorite trips. We spend our entire time deep in the heart of Maasailand and the amazing wildlife of Kenya surrounds us. Evenings are spent around the fire and while we sleep millions of stars light up the heavens.

The clinics, amazing beauty of the landscape and the sounds of the night are life-giving to me. They draw me closer to my Creator and He re-news me and give me a sense of peace and that’s just what I need right now in my life.

Please continue to lift Global Village Ministries up in your prayers. And for those of you that are not able to physically join us on this trip – just know you can travel with us via our blog and my facebook page.
