Week 4Capturing a moment

Task: Using a pencil or pen, create a drawing of something that is happening in front of you. This is different to drawing an object or copying an image. You can draw using quick or ‘loose’ line and you don’t need to include all the details. You could draw a family member sitting in front of you, the room you are in, a moment outside- in a park or on a street etc. This is not a test of skill, its about exploring Art as a means of capturing an everyday event. Turning the Mundane into something beautiful. Remember- don’t focus on detail, just try to capture the scene in front of you as best you can.

Capturing a moment..Sometimes creating Art inspired by every day life helps us appreciate the simple things. Most of us are spending more time in our homes, with our families and this task is about capturing a moment in time during this experience.

Drawing a ‘Point of view’. You may approach this by finding an interesting place to sit or stand and drawing everything you can see from that ‘view point’!

Week 5Distorted object

Distorted object:Distorted: Pulled or twisted out of shape; irregular, warped, deformed, crooked. When creating Artwork we have licence to change or manipulate reality! Sometimes Artists represent reality in strange, warped or distorted ways; to create shock, to express emotion or to challenge perceptions. Have a look at the images on this slide, you should be able to work out what they are meant to be but equally, you can see they have been distorted. Task: Choose an object to draw, e.g. a piece of fruit, a bottle, your hand, a spoon etc. 1. Draw the object as it is (no distortion). Sketch the object out softly first, then

gradually add shading- dark, medium and light. 2. Next, draw the object in a distorted or warped style. Use the images here for

inspiration. Make sure we can still tell what the object is meant to be, along with the distortion you create!

EXT-Create a distorted portrait, either of

yourself or a member of your family. Use this

image as inspiration and look

up the Artist Henrietta Harris for

further ideas!

Week 6&7Artist Study & ResponseInspired by the Black Lives Matter movement

Artist study & response: On the next two slides I have displayed the works of 4 contemporary Black Artists: Derrick Adams, Andrea Pippins, Jade Purple Brown and Jamaal Barber. This task is intended to both honour the Black Lives Matter movement and to showcase some brilliant Artists you may not have studied before! This task has been set to cover two weeks worth of learning, so you should spend at least 2hrs on it.

Your task will be in 3 parts: Analyse – Recreate – Respond. Choose from the Artists on the next two slides for this task. This will be your last Art task this year so put in your best effort! Don’t forget to keep all your work safe so you can bring it in to show us when you are back in school!

TASK 1 ANALYSIS:Choose one of the Artists from the list. Aim to write 100+ words, research your Artist first to see more of their work. 1. Describe the Artists style, how do

they use the elements of line, tone, colour and texture?

2. What media or materials do you think they’ve used?

3. What message do you think they are trying to communicate in their work ?

4. What is your opinion of the Artwork ?5. EXT- Compare the Artists work with

one other Artist out of the 4. What’s the same, what’s different ?

TASK 2- RECREATE:Choose one image by the Artist you analysed in task 1. You could use one of the images I have selected or search for one of your own by the same Artist.

Copy the image as best you can. If you are lucky enough to have Art materials, try to mimic the style of the Artist- if you only have a pencil, that’s fine, just draw what you see!

TASK 3- RESPOND:Your last task is to create your own Art piece in the style of your Artist. Here are some suggestions:

• Create an image from your imagination in the style of your Artist.

• Create a self portrait in the style of your Artist.

• Draw an object or image in the style of your Artist.

This task is up for interpretation, there are no right or wrong, try your best and good luck!
