Week 8- Term 2, 19th June 2013 Dear Parents, Bus travel and the inherent safety of our students whilst travelling to and from school is of significant concern to schools and our parents. One of the major difficulties the school faces is the issue of behaviour at bus stops. Schools work closely with bus companies to follow up concerns raised as we both have a duty of care to students on their way to and from school. It is not an easy task as there is no supervision at bus stops.
Our school encourages students to be proactive and to report problems as they occur, directly as students arrive at school. An easier and safer way to manage behaviour is for all students to do the right thing in the first instance. Please have a talk about bus stop behaviour at home and remind all children of the behaviour which is needed to keep everyone safe at bus stops. Simple things such as games of tag and kicking balls come under the heading of not safe.
The local bus companies have asked schools to remind travellers of the rules with regard to carrying items on to the bus. All basketballs and soccer balls must either be in a students school bag or carried in a separate carry bag. Musical instruments larger than a violin are not to be brought onto the bus. Guitars and saxophones for example are prohibited as they cannot be placed safely in a child’s lap without impeding other students. If you have any concerns or questions, parents are best to ring the bus company themselves for clarification. Policy and guidelines can be found at:

DEPUTY’S REPORT:
LOST PROPERTY When the morning temperatures get down to 6 degrees,
like it was this morning, I have to wonder why more
children are not looking for their jumpers!!! Our lost
property is overflowing with Kororo school jumpers. A
quick estimate would be more than $1000. I have just
spent time searching through two enormous boxes filled
to overflowing. Less than half have names on them. It is
very important that we teach our children to be
responsible for their belongings however, in the event
that something is lost, it makes it much easier to return
if it is clearly labelled.
Lost property is kept in the multipurpose room (next to
the boy’s toilets). There is also a large collection of
lunchbox containers and drink bottles. These will go in
the rubbish at the end of the term. Please check if you
are missing any items.
KINDERGARTEN HEALTHY BREAKFAST If you saw lots of children AND teachers still in their
pyjamas yesterday morning, there was a very good
reason. It was the Kindergarten Healthy Breakfast.
Kororo Kinders can now tell you all about the benefits of
having a great start to the day by eating a healthy
breakfast. They were treated to French toast, fruit with
yogurt, honey and banana toast and porridge. Not only did
they get to enjoy a yummy breakie but they also had to
wash and dry their dishes.
Well done Kinder teachers. These special days take a lot
of organisation and effort but they create memories that
last a lifetime for our students. Thank you to Coffs High
work experience students Lara, Matthew, Courtney and
Emma and parents who helped out.
