Universal  Shelving  System                                                                                  by  Dieter  Rams  

                             Dieter  Rams  developed  the  universal  shelving  system     in   1960’s     for  Vitsoe.     It   is  still   the  lead   inspiration   in   all   kinds   of   shelving   system   and  has   been   in   production   for   nearly   50years   now.  What   inspires  me   is   that  Rams  developed  a   system  which   was   ‘universal’   so   it   could   be   easily  manufactured,   packed   and   stored,   yet   it   can   be  highly  personalized  in  terms  of  style,  look,  place  and  function.   Dieter   Rams   always   reminds   me   that  simple(not   only   in   looks   but   also   function)   is  beautiful.

The  Final  Project  

We  wanted  to  create  a  functional  unit  which  could  be  easily  mass  produced    somehow  have  the  scope   of   personalization   or   have   the   opportunity   of   constant   evolution.   We   chose   to   come  seating  and  storage  to  form  a  chair  cum  table/stool  cum  a  shelf.
