Word Wall Words –
KN and MB (silent letter sounds)
While the KN and MB phonemes are not as common as some of the others, the available flashcards have still been arranged in difficulty order, to help facilitate progression and differentiation in your class.
For the KN phoneme, there are: • 6 relatively simple KN words – great for building
confidence!: knit, knot, knee, knock, knoll, kneel• 3 KN words I would consider slightly more difficult
because of the other phonemes they contain: knight, knife, know
• 4 KN verbs – 3 with ‘ing’, one with ‘ed’: knitting, knocking, kneeling, knackered
• 3 KN compound words: doorknob, pocketknife, knapsack
The MB phoneme isn’t very common, so there are only 9 flashcards total. There are: • 5 simple MB words: comb, lamb, limb, jamb, bomb• 2 MB words with beginning blends: crumbs, climb• 2 MB compound words: honeycomb, doorjamb
