Read the operatinginstructions, even if you have already worked with similarsweeping vacuum machines. It is absolutely essential thatyou familiarize yourself with all the equipment and operatingelements and their functions before starting the machine. There is no time to do this while you are working.

- The machine must not be driven on public highways. Onsloping surfaces the angle of inclination at the side andin the direction of travel must not exceed 18%.
- Never leave the machine unattended while the key is inthe ignition.
- The operator may only leave the machine when themotors have come to a standstill, when the machine hasbeen secured so that it cannot move unintentionally andwhen the parking brake has been activated and the keyremoved.

Operation
2. Operation Important :Please first try driving the sweeper in an unobstructedarea until you have become really familiar with the variousoperating elements and their functions.
In the instructions that follow, directions (right, left, frontand rear) are always as seen from the driver’s seat.
2.1 Before starting work - Check the engine oil level (if necessary refill to max).- Check that you have sufficient fuel.- Empty the dirt container (if necessary).- Shake or replace the panel filter (if necessary).
Open the fuel cock:- With the hood open, unscrew the rear hand screw and
release the hood fastening.- Lift the hood slightly and push it out a little to the left.- Open the fuel cock.
Important:Close the fuel cock when not using the machine for a longperiod.
2.2 Starting the engine - Raise the main sweeping brush and side brushes.- Apply the hand brake.- Set the gas lever to running speed (it locks in place).- Pull the choke lever to the rear (only if the engine is
cold).- Turn the ignition key in the starter switch to the right and
hold it there until the engine starts.- Release the choke lever as soon as the engine runs
smoothly.

21
Operation
2.3 Sweeping without suctioncleaning
This is recommended when the floor or pavement isdamp or wet.- Lower the side brushes.- Lower the sweeping brush (lever position 1, filter flap
closed).- Move the gas lever to bring the engine to running speed
(it locks in place).- Press the drive pedal down gently for movement in the
required direction.Press to the front - forwardsPress to the rear - reverse
- Open the coarse dirt flap by pressing the pedalwhenever any bulky material has to be picked up.
- Check the dirt container regularly and empty it asnecessary.
Note:When driving over door sills and similar obstructions, it isnecessary to raise the coarse-dirt flap or to raise thesweeping brush as the coarse-dirt flap could otherwisebe damaged.
2.4 Sweeping with suctioncleaning
This is recommended when the floor or pavement isdry.- Lower the side brushes.- Lower the sweeping brush (lever position 2, filter flap
open).- Subsequent operations as under Point 2.3.- Actuate the filter-cleaning lever depending on how
dusty it is (first switch off the engine).
Note:The speed at which the engine runs also determines thespeed at which the brush drum rotates and the speed atwhich the sweeper travels. If there is a lot of dust to beswept up, the engine speed and rate of travel should bereduced so as not to swirl up too much dust.
KMR 1200 B
22
2.5 Suction with the suction hose(Accessory)
- Close the filter flap (lever position 3 or 1).- Set the engine to maximum speed by means of the gas
lever.- Take the suction hose out of its holder and perform the
required cleaning operation.
2.6 Travel without sweeping - Raise the side brush.- Raise the sweeping brush (lever position 3).
Note:If it is necessary to drive up a steep gradient it is better notto press the drive pedal right down. The sweeper will thenmove more slowly but be better able to climb the gradient.
2.7 Stopping and parking - Release the drive pedal. This will automatically brakethe sweeper and bring it to a stop.
- Move the gas lever to bring the engine to its lowestspeed.
- Apply the hand brake.- Stop the engine and remove the ignition key.
Note:The side brush and the sweeping brush should always beraised before the sweeper is put out of use.
2.8 Pushing the sweeper If it is required to move the sweeper without using itsengine, then the free-wheel lever on the hydrodynamicconverter should be locked in. After the sweeper hasbeen moved, the lever should be released again asotherwise it will not be possible to drive the sweeper.

Maintenance operations
4. Maintenance operations
4.1 Replacing the sweeping brush - Stop the engine.- Raise the sweeping brush by means of the hand lever
and lock the lever in position.- Unscrew and remove the left-hand side cover.- Unscrew the hand nut on the brush axle, remove the
linkage for raising the brush.- Unscrew the three hand screws that hold the brush-
drum cover and swing the brush shaft as far as the stop, out of the working region.
- Remove the brush-drum cover together with the driveaxle.
- Pull the brush out to the side.
Note:When inserting the new brush, it should be ensured thatits nose engages in the recess in the right-hand driveelement. Be sure to install the new brush the right wayround (with the Vee arrangement of the bristles as shownbelow).
4.2 Replacing the side brushes - Stop the engine.- Raise the side brush(es) by means of the hand lever.- Loosen and unscrew the hand nut beneath the brush.- Remove the drive washer and the side brush.
Note:When fitting back the drive washer, it should be ensuredthat its lugs engage in the holes in the gear flange.
4.3 Replacing the sealing strips
How the brush should appear viewedfrom the front of the sweeper
Note:For it to be possible to maintain the specified vacuum inthe brush compartment, and thus for the sweeper to workwithout raising dust, it is essential for the sealing strips tobe in sound condition. Damaged strips should bereplaced immediately. The sealing strips at the sidesshould just reach to the floor and touch lightly against itwhile the strips at the front and rear have to be sopositioned that they bend over to the rear (they should beset about 5 mm deeper than the side strips).
KMR 1200 B
25
- Stop the engine.- Remove the side covers.- Unscrew the fastening screws and remove the sealing
strips.- Fit new sealing strips and adjust their depth.- Tighten the fastening screws.
4.4 Replacing the sealing-brushstrips
- Stop the engine.- Unscrew the clamping screws and remove the brush
strips.- Insert the new strips and so adjust them that they rest
evenly against and seal the dirt container.- Tighten the clamping screws.
Note:The sealing strip that provides the seal between the dirtcontainer and the frame should be checked at least onceevery 40 operating hours. If the strip is damaged it shouldbe replaced immediately.
4.5 Replacing the panel filter Note:The purpose of the panel filter is to retain the dust that israised by the rotating brush. If the sweeper ceases toclean effectively or if dust escapes around the sweeperwhile sweeping, then the filter elements must be replaced(see und “Servicing operations”). Defective filter elementsmust be replaced immediately.- Stop the engine.- Open the cover and hood.- Unscrew the two hand screws, take out the frame and
remove the filter elements.- Insert new filter elements, put back the frame and
tighten the two hand screws.
Note:It is important that the frame is seated correctly againstthe edges of the filter elements.
Maintenance operations
4.6 Check/replace engine air filter - Release the hood and push it to the left as describedunder 2.1.
- Unscrew the hand screws that secure the air filtercover.
- Check the condition of the air filter (pre-filter and filtercartridge) and clean or replace if necessary.
