A Note from the Principal
Dear Wade King Families,
Did you know Wade King has an Action Team? Our Action Team is a group of 5th graders from all three classes who are committed to taking action to help make the world a better place.
Our counselor, Regina Twigg, connected Wade King with the WE organization, which is dedicated to supporting kids in schools as they take action to make the world a better place. The majority of schools that partner with WE are middle schools and high schools, but due to the action component and beliefs of our International Baccalaureate Primary Years Program, Wade King was a perfect fit. Our mission statement is, “Our school aims to develop knowledgeable, skilled, compassionate, principled, and action-oriented young people through a rigorous program of inquiry. King students become internationally-minded individuals who help create a better world.”
Our 5th Grade Action Team participated in WE Day in Seattle, on April 20th. WE Day was a celebration of the kids’ hard work throughout the year! WE Day is a fast paced event held in Key Arena. Students spent the day listening to motivational speakers and seeing spotlights of action projects in different schools. There were a few dance breaks too!

(Principal’s Message continued) This year’s WE Day motivational speakers included:
Russell Wilson, Doug Baldwin, and Pete
Carol from the Seahawks
Jordan Morris and Christian Roldan from
the Sounders
Singers Grace Vanderwaal, Jordan
Fisher, and Allen Stone
Actors Lily Collins and Skai Jackson
Retired astronaut Buzz Aldrin
All of the speakers shared times in their lives when they had to overcome diversity and rise above a situation. Students were encouraged to be upstanders instead of bystanders and to take action about ideas and beliefs they truly care about.
“I liked learning about more ways to take action and my favorite performance was by Grace Vanderwaal,” said Action Team Member, Macie Aven.
Hazel Gaston said, “I liked how powerful the speakers were and I got inspired to take action. I liked listening to Grace Vanderwaal too.”
Another Action Team Member, Natalie Brewer said, “I thought it was really cool that all these people came together and talked about what they did or could do to make the world a better place. My favorite speaker was Russell Wilson.”
“I liked hearing people, really famous people, share their back stories. My favorite speaker was Buzz Aldrin,” said Jack Brady.
Our 5th Grade Action Team is now planning how they will share this experience with all of our 4th graders, who will have an opportunity to participate in our Action Team next year.

Do You Know An Incoming Kindergartener? We are currently registering kindergarteners for next year! If you know a child who will be five on
or before August 31st, please encourage his/her family to visit their neighborhood school and
register their child for next year. When kindergarteners register at Wade King, we will share
information about our Kindergarten Open House on May 25th so they can plan to attend.
Thank You!
Class Placement for Next Year This spring, our teachers and specialists will be working together to create our classes for next year.
When we make class placements, our staff makes intentional decisions to ensure the best possible
placement for each student, while at the same time creating classrooms that are balanced
academically and that will support the social-emotional needs of each student. Our staff is
committed to using all that we know about your child to make the best possible placement for
him/her. I am unable to honor parent requests for individual teachers, however, if there is
information about your child that you want us to be sure to consider, I need that information by
May 5th. You can print the Class Placement Information Form below or pick one up in the main
office. For consideration, the completed form needs to be turned in to the office by May 5th.

Are You Moving? If your family will be moving and your child(ren) will not be attending Wade King next year, please
contact our school office by emailing Debbie McMeel or by calling 647-6840. This is important
information for us to have as we begin planning for next year. Thank You!
Jr. Ski to Sea Parade – Friday, May 19th at 5pm
Our annual Recorder Marching Band will be performing in the
Ski to Sea Jr. Parade on Friday afternoon, May 19th. Wade King students and families will line up at 5pm on Cornwall Ave
just north of Assumption School.
3rd, 4th, and 5th grade students will be playing recorders
with a new tune this year: “Walk to the Sea” by Paul
Corbiere which students will be learning in Mrs.
Norman’s music classes.
Kindergarten, 1st, and 2nd grade students will march
behind the recorders and will hum the tune on kazoos.
(We will provide students with kazoos at the parade).
Wear a bright green T-shirt (if you have one). We will
have some bright green T-shirts for students to borrow at
the parade.
This is our 8th year of marching and it has become a favorite tradition at Wade King. Many parents walk along the parade
route, which goes downtown on Cornwall Ave, so come join us
for some fun and merriment!
Girl Scouts
We are excited to announce that in the fall there will be a Kindergarten Girl Scout Troop starting. This is a
great way to meet new friends and build leadership skills while working in the great outdoors. If you are interested in being an assistant troop leader or having your child in the troop, please contact: Teddi Anshus (Troop Leader) at [email protected] Note: Spots will fill up fast since there is only limited space in the troop. Feel
free to share this contact information with any incoming kindergarten girls.
Girl Scouts of Western Washington is also hoping to start troops for other ages in the fall. They are planning to host a fun information event for girls in grades K-5 (and their parents) who would like to learn about joining or starting a troop. To find out more about upcoming events, joining Girl Scouts, or starting a troop,
please contact Lynda Williams at (360) 658-8083 ext. 4419 or by email at [email protected].
You can find more information at www.GirlScoutsWW.org.
Earth Day Extravaganza!!! Many Wade King students, parents, and grandparents took action on April 20th by weeding, laying bark, and planting flowers to make our school a more beautiful place. We’d like to send a special thank you to the Wade King PTA, Sanitary Service Company, Grow Source, and Joe’s Garden for their donations that made this event possible. Thank you!
There was a wheelbarrow left at school from this event. Please contact the office if it is yours!

Lost and Found
Have you looked at our Lost and Found recently? We have an assortment of tennis
shoes that seem to have lost their owners as well as outerwear and winter hats.
Please check to see if your missing items are on the table or rack in the hallway.
Remember, all items that are not claimed by June 19th will be donated
to a local charity.
