KFPS NEWS: No. 19 Wednesday 24th June,
2020
Principal’s message……..
Dear Parents and friends, Welcome to the last week of this term! I wish to thank our students, staff and families for making such an effort over this term to work together as one. As mentioned in previous newsletters it has been a challenging term for all. With the recent cluster outbreaks around the metropolitan area it is a timely reminder that we cannot become compla-cent around what we need to do to keep ourselves and our loved ones safe. Although I am not suggesting that we need to completely lock down like we all did during the Easter break, I am asking families to be mindful of your travels during this next holiday break. We need to all take responsibility for social distancing and adequate hygiene practices. Please remember that the end of the school term is this coming Friday 26th June and ALL STUDENTS will be dismissed at 2:30pm from their designated gate. I wish you all a safe and happy holiday break and look forward to seeing our students return for Term 3 on Monday 13th July at 8:40am.
What you need to know:
Stay safe by washing your hands, keeping your distance from others, and staying home if you feel unwell.
If you have symptoms of coronavirus you should get tested.
From June 22nd the number of visitors that you can have to your home has reduced to five visitors. Outdoor gather-ings have reduced to a maximum group of ten people.
Restaurants, pubs, auction halls, community halls, libraries, museums and places of worship remain at a maximum of 20 people in any one space.
Businesses including gyms, cinemas, theatres and TABS can open with a maximum of 20 people per space
All changes to restrictions and the proposed dates are subject to the advice of the Victoria’s Chief Health Officer and the continued and effective management of the spread of COVID -19.
Term 3 school restrictions: Starting on Monday 13th July all students can arrive at school at 8:40am and collected at 3pm from the gate that they
have currently been designated. Students will continue to sanitise their hands upon arrival at the school gate. Students will continue to sanitise before and after eating and before and after recess breaks. Parents will still need to remain off site and should not congregate and socialise at or near the gate or along the
perimeter of the school in groups. We need you to move along promptly. Any breach of these rules will force our school to return to staggered starts and finishes. Our school canteen will continue to open for lunches on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday with a reduced meal deal
menu. School bubble taps remain turned off and students will continue to bring their own water bottles. Take Home readers will commence but will have a 5 day turnaround where sanitisation will take place. Brekky Club will resume in Term 3 but with a ‘Brekky to Go’ approach via the canteen window.

Teamwork Being Your Best Responsibility
Grade 5/6 CAMP IS ON!!!!! Please pay your deposit.
The Department of Education & Training has provided advice that camps can resume as of June 22nd. Therefore it is all systems go for the Grade 5/6 Phillip Island camp. Thank you to those families who have provided a deposit for this camp. The $100 deposit must be given to the school by this Friday 26th June.
Principal Awards: Congratulations to last week’s Principal Award winners. Your ability to ‘be your best’ was evident! This week our Principal Awards have the specific focus on the value of ‘Responsibility”. When you are demonstrating re-sponsibility you are following classroom rules and using your learning time. Students who are nominated by their class-room teacher for a Principal Award will receive their certificates on Friday at 2pm. There will be no assembly to acknowledge these beautiful kids BUT we will announce them over the PA and take a photo of them.
Reporting to Parents:
End of semester reports have been written and will be sent home with your child on the first Friday of Term 3 (Friday July
17th). We prefer to send home reports just prior to the Parent-Teacher program where parents can discuss with their
child’s teacher the progress from semester one and your child’s goals for future learning.
Due to COVID-19 restrictions the decision has been made to not hold parent-teacher interviews onsite but rather ask that
families request a phone interview or an online WebEx meeting with teachers on Thursday 23rd July.
Our Parent-Teacher interviews will be held on Thursday 23rd July from 10:00am – 5:30pm. Please keep this date free.
Session 1: 10:00am – 12:30pm Session 2: 1.00pm – 3:00pm Session 3: 3:30pm – 5:30pm Please Note: Bookings will open on Friday 26th June at 2:30pm via the parent portal on Sentral, and close on Monday 20th July 2020.
Prep Enrolment for 2020:
Prep enrolments for 2020 are being accepted and should be submitted by the end of term. If you know of families interested in attending Kangaroo Flat Primary School in 2020, please encourage them to contact the school. The Department of Education and Training has changed the schools zones please visit findmyschool.vic.gov.au to see our zone.
Absences: If your child is absent, please phone the school on 54475100 and follow the prompts.
Uniform: I know that it is the end of term but we have a number of students wearing non-uniform items, so I ask that
families organise any winter uniform items oven this holiday break. Remember our school uniform is Green and Gray, Not
Black.

By Rayelene Ingredients:
4 egg whites
250g caster sugar
1 teaspoon cornflour
1 teaspoon white wine vinegar
1/2 teaspoon vanilla essence
Method:
Preheat the oven to 150 degrees C. Line a baking tray baking paper. Place a plate in the
middle of the baking paper and draw a circle around the edge using a pencil. Turn the
paper over so the pencil mark is touching the tray, not your pavlova.
In a spotlessly clean and medium sized dry bowl, whisk the egg whites with an electric
hand whisk until soft peaks form. Begin to slowly add the sugar, a spoon at a time, until
the egg whites become glossy. Add the cornflour, vinegar and vanilla.
Gently place the mixture into the circular shape on the tray using the your drawn circle as
a guide.
Turn the oven down to 100c and bake the pavlova in oven for 1 hour. Switch off the oven
and allow your pav cool completely inside the oven. Remove from the oven and place on
a flat serving plate.
Topping: Spoon the whipped cream into the centre of the pavlova and smooth. Deco-
rate with your desired fruits
TIPS: Make sure your mixing bowl and whisk is completely dry or your egg whites won’t
thicken. When separating your egg white from the yolk do so in a small bowl then add to
larger mixing bowl. If you happen to get any yolk in the white do not use, as this will also
stop your whites from thickening. Try to cook your pav to use the next day. Do not try to
cook anything else in your oven while cooking your pav. The oven needs to be low and slow
and kept closed overnight to allow your pav to cool.
