Goal 3: Teacher LeadershipThe district will promote teacher leadership by defining and improving opportunities for teacher leadership to support organizational growth and capacity.
35
Teacher Leadership: Overcoming Barriers36 Research supports the notion that teachers resist
identifying themselves as a “leader” so overcoming this obstacle is necessary to grow teacher leaders in a positive
way. To help overcome this we’ve:
● Clearly defined a teacher leader● Offered a variety of ways that teachers can engage in
leadership● Offered an incentive for sharing best practices in both
formal and informal ways
Definition of Teacher LeadershipBegan the
school year with PD for teachers
to better understand the
role and attributes of
teacher leaders.
37
Teacher Leadership: The Why?38 “Teacher leadership is critical for really
helping a school building build their capacity to increase student learning and student
achievement and not only what that teacher does inside that school building but how that
teacher leader works with the larger community to drive engagement and support
for school goals and for increasing youth success.” —Tanya Tucker
