Conflict diamonds or

(blood diamonds) are

illegally traded and sold

to fund the brutality in

war torn areas.They are

referred to as blood

diamonds because of

the blood shed over

mining them. Consumers

deserve to know about

the diamond they are

buying. They should use

there resources to find

out about the product

they are purchasing and,

the company that is

selling the diamonds.

There are millions of

diamonds in the world

and in the 1990’s Africa

was producing about

four percent of the

diamonds out there. In

the early 2000’s the

Kimberley process

certification system was

enforced and, it helped

reduce the blood

diamonds to about 2

percent. Today less than

1 percent of the

diamonds are blood

diamonds because

they’re officially traded

under the UN mandated

Kimberley process.

There are 74 countries

that contribute to the

Kimberley process and

operate under their laws

to sell or trade there

diamonds. Since the

Kimberley process

began three countries

have not obeyed the

laws applying to the

Kimberley process and

have chose to illegally

sell and trade there

diamonds. Those three

countries are the

Republic of Congo,

Liberia, and the ivory

coast.The other 71

countries diamonds are

completely conflict

free.To ensure that your

diamond came from a

reputable source ask

your jeweler where the

diamond came

from ,whether the

company has a policy

regarding conflict

diamonds and, if the

company can guarantee

that its diamonds are

conflict free.

HOW TO STOP BLOOD DIAMONDS!

Blood diamonds, also known as conflict diamonds, are diamonds that

are sold to fund the unlawful and illegal operations of rebel military groups.

The profits are used to purchase military weapons and equipment. Conflict

diamond mining sites are mostly in South Africa. The most popular countries

are Mali, Sierra Leone, and Liberia.

To help prevent blood diamonds more people should try to inform the

world about the torture and hard labor that is happening to children of all ages

in southern Africa and other parts of the world. The children are mostly from

ages 4-17. They are forced to mine and are tortured and even murdered. If

any of these kids are caught trying to steal any of the diamonds, the diamond

miners will cut off their fingers or even their entire hand or arm.

In May 2000 the major diamond

and trading and producing countries,

established a diamond certification

scheme. Most nations agreed to not

trade or purchase any diamonds without

proof of certification that the diamond

aren’t conflict diamonds. The nations

established a legitimate diamond trade,

and the trade provides jobs for over 10

million people without work and also

helps slow down the illegal diamond

trades.

You can help prevent purchasing

a conflict diamond by consulting the

jeweler about the certification of the

diamond or diamonds you are

purchasing. There should be signatures

of both the jeweler and the diamond

miner.

ears of a big diamond that a man named Solomon Vandy found. Archer does everythhis power to get this diamond but Solomon wants a few things in return. Solomonsmily was taken by the R.U.F . They found his wife and daughter in a camp rescued ilitary, but his son was turned into an R.U.F soldier. Solomon Vandy agreed to showrcher where the diamond was for helping him find his family. On the way Solomonought he saw his son in a truck full of R.U.F soldiers, when he called his sons nameU.F started firing randomly in there direction. Archer was really angry because if eitthem died he would not be able to find the diamond. When Solomon woke up the norning Archer had already hunted a baboon and said if he risked either of there lives

e that again he would personally cut Solomons face off. This gave Solomon a littlextra motivation to keep moving and stay quiet. Once they found the camp that Solomund the diamond in Archer called in an attack to clear out all R.U.F soldiers. The attaasn’t going to come until after dark, so Archer decides to take a nap. As Archer iseeping Solomon decides to go down to the camp and look for his son. Archer wakesnd realizes that Solomon is gone. He gears up and goes into the camp to find him.olomon found his son but, his son turned on him and called in other R.U.F soldiers.olomon was captured and the leader of the R.U.F wanted the diamond also. He toldolomon to find the diamond or else he would kill his son, find his daughter and wife a

eep them for himself. As that happened the attack came in and started blowing theamp to pieces. The leader of the R.U.F tried to run but Solomon picked up a shovel aeat him almost to death. Archer grabs Solomon’s son and finds Solomon to take themafety. Once there safe Archers people meet them and they start looking for the diamrchers people want over half of the profits for themselves. Solomon knows this so hees to play dumb like he can’t find the diamond. Archers people get mad and pull gun

n Solomon, Archer tells him to just find the diamond. When he did find the diamondrchers people pulled a gun and tried to take it for themselves but Archer shot them aolomons son picks up a pistol and points it at Archer, so Solomon had to talk him int

anding over the gun by reminding him of his normal life before. When Archer killed hwn people he was hit once in the side. They have the diamond now and have to hikeiles to the top of a ridge where a plane will meet Archer and Solomon. The plane is

upposed to take Solomon and his son to there village and Archer to London to sell thamond. They were almost to the top of the ridge when Archers pain was unbearablend he couldn’t go on. Solomon tried to carry Archer but his pain was to much. He gavolomon a gun and the diamond and said “make a good life for your boy”. Archer toldho to meet to sell the diamond, and to point the gun at the pilot and not to trust him a. Archer ends up dieing right there on the ridge making sure Solomon gets to the pla
