By MURT MURPHY

A mouth watering clash between arguably the second best club side in Ireland, Dr Crokes against unbeaten Austin Stacks, who are the only side of the eight in this year’s Club Championship who won their three games. Dr Crokes are the holders of the Club title and Austin Stacks last won it three years ago, beating Crokes in the fi nal by a single point (2-12 to 1-14).

There is little doubt but that Crokes are tired because of the All-Ireland Club fi nal

defeat and they have played fi ve games since so they are itching for a break. But when there is a sniff of a trophy, expect them

to get a second wind! They will have to play without Gavin White who retired injured against O’Rahilly’s on Sunday and he has dislocated his elbow so he will be a huge loss to Crokes.

But they are still formidable side with Shane Murphy between the sticks, a defence with John

Payne, Fionn Fitzgerald, David O’Leary and Michael Potts is formidable while at midfi eld Johnny Buckley is there along with the consistent Daithí Casey. Tony Brosnan, Micheál Burns, David Shaw, Brian Looney

and David Shaw need no introduction.

But Stacks are posting big totals winning all three games and scoring 54 points and conceding 32, both superior to Crokes of 48 for and 45 conceded. They have unearthed a young scoring star up front in Sean

Quilter, who has scored 0-8 in his last two games. They have Barry Shanahan

at the edge of the square and two attacking corner backs in Colin Griffi n and Jack O’Shea while Ronan Shanahan and Jack Morgan

are as sticky as the Tefl on Don.

Wayne Guthrie is playing in his best position at midfi eld while up front Kieran Donaghy adds experience at the edge of the square while Sean Quilter, Shane O’Callaghan, Greg Horan and Darragh O’Brien all know where the posts are.

The emergence of young Sean Quilter is a major boost to the Stacks as they are without David Mannix this year so to have a reliable long range free taker as well as a very precocious young footballer is a big plus to Stacks.

But you write off Crokes at your peril and though tired they may be, they have big game experience something many of the Stacks squad do not have. This game will also be decided on which side will be the more disciplined and also the side that refuses to panic. Crokes and Stacks are fi erce rivals and for Stacks it would not be disrespectful to suggest that meeting Crokes in a Final after they have played fi ve games on the spin and six in eight weeks, including that All-Ireland Final, is probably one of the better times to lock horns with them.

It promises to be a cracker and maybe this Crokes side might be vulnerable to a vibrant Stacks side but it could go either way.

VERDICT: Austin Stacks.

CAN STACKS MAINTAIN UNBEATEN RUN AGAINST HOLDERS CROKES?
