The music video for this song was shot in Manchester on May 18th 2007. It was directed by Shane Drake and was a worldwide release. It peaked at number three on August 25, 2007 for four non-consecutive weeks, and eventually spent nineteen consecutive weeks inside the top ten. The idea of the video seems to be to follow Timberland around the city, where flicks of professional footballers can also be seen in various shots throughout. This video really appeals to me because it has such a Sharpe, edgy motion to it. To me its a masterpiece with lots of style and impact crammed into it, making this video one of the quickest and liveliest I’ve seen. This video is designed more than anything to show off Timberlands ‘coolness’ and I think it pulls this off easily, from the various colours and the extravagant wardrobe they use, to the hundreds of edits that are used constantly throughout. This video gives off a slick impression of Timberland, making him look cool through effortlessness because of the high standard of the video. The song relates to the video through the beats, both are fast edgy and don’t last for long. They keep the song and the video going at a fast speed to make the video seem longer as it actually only 3 minutes 37 seconds so its crammed full with loads of different shots, keeping the flow lively and busy. Some of the flicks in this video last shorter than a second so there are loads of edits used in the making of this video. With each rhythmic pulse the song gives off, they have carefully timed in a variety of different edits, your eyes are constantly flicking through this video, the switch from edit to edit is so smoothly done you watch the whole video flicking your eyes from corner to corner without realising your moving your eyes around so much, focusing on all the close ups as the camera constantly zooms and flicks in and out.

The clips above are from the first 10 seconds of the video, which is were the music is just being introduced, there had been no singing other than a low groan saying ‘CEO emergency’. And already there are 6 scenes thrown into the 1st 10 seconds of the video. As you can see it isn’t just the people that are shown in the video, random shots of lights and pavements are used throughout to pad out the open spaces in the video. The lyrics show that they relate to the video, as the video is in a very basic underground setting some where in the city, the lyrics are too very basic and un formal. For example; the song is called ;The Way I Are’ In the song they use the lyrics, ‘Can you handle me the way am are’ and ‘I’m the one who loves you best’ none of which use proper grammar. Its made to seem ‘dumb’ and so the video is too basic, but they have livened it up with the amount of camera shots, lighting effects and editing they have used. The Mise-en-scene reflects a grimey underground which then represents the song ‘The way I Are’ and the lyrics ‘you can still touch my love its free' and ‘I like you just the way you are.’ Interpreting the fact that you don’t need money to love someone and life's not all about money, which is the message the song

is trying to get across.
