We're Legitimate!JL he Santa Rosa Sunrise
Rotary Club was the last club in theworld to be chartered in the waninghours of the 1985 - 1986 Rotaryyear. Appropriately, we begin ourcareer as a new club in the dawn ofa brand new year of Rotary Service. We intend to serve our community, advance the principles of Rotaryand have a great time doing it.
Let's strive to be a credit to oursponsoring District Governor,
The Governoris coming -
The Governoris coming!
JL he new District Governor(1986 - 1987), Sid Berlin, willmake his visitation to our club atour regular meeting on July 24.
Norman Lawrence (1985-1986).We'll always owe a debt ofgratitude to Hank Zagar, GovernorNorm's special representative andto members of our sponsoringclub, the Rotary Club of WestSanta Rosa. A particular tip of thecap to Rich Pratt (Now PastPresident), Tom Collins(Secretary), Bob Morigo(Community Service) and to PastDistrict Governor John Withers.By the way, these folks are notcutting the umbilical cord yet-theyplan to help us at least throughtoddler-hood.
N,ow that we're an official
club it's important to make-up atother locations when you can'tattend your own meeting. Youhave the six days before and the sixdays after your missed meeting tomake-up. Making-up is fun.

TODAY. We NEED to know if you'recoming.
Last Week
JL/ast week was our first week at theSheraton, and so far, so good! Our guestspeaker, Henry Culp, president of theLuther Burbank Foundation, spoke on thepromotion and community support of ourcultural center and of his goal to make itone of the finest in our state and possiblythe nation.
We were also honored to receive somany visiting Rotartians and it looks likewe will regularly receive guests whochoose to make up at our club. This is agreat opportunity for us to meet otherRotarians in our community. Get in thehabit of shaking hands and welcoming ournew friends and share the feeling of ournew club.
The Sheraton did its part in helpingus put on a class act, and we anticipate itto get better as we go!
Club ServiceCommittee
1 he Club Service Committee isone of the busiest arms of Rotary andmay be viewed as the administration ofeach club. The weekly programs arescheduled and coordinated by the ProgramChairman who is a member of the ClubService Committee.
If you have a program to suggestplease contact the Program Chairman,Bob Dunn. Another Club Serviceactivity is the room and facilities. TheSergeant-at-Arms, Mike McCracken, assures that the room is ready, the fees arecollected, and that we have greeters. Ofcourse we also force Mike to collect fines.
Foundation 100% PlanPast President Ted Kmttschnitt and
his wife, Cathy of Burlingame have comeup with a fantastically generous plan tomake District 513 the first District in theRotary world to be a 100% Paul HarrisDistrict.
Ted has offered to put up in cash,$50 for each member in the District whois not already a Paul Harris Fellow orSustaining Member PROVIDED thatEACH of the clubs agree to match his$50 per non-Paul Harris member. This100% will be credited to each of the non-Paul Harris members thereby makingevery member in the club a Paul Harrismember.
That would cost our club $1500.That's a major part of our infant budget, but we could do it with individual supportof a commitment of $25 to $100 permember sometime during the 1986-1987year. The goal is over $500,000 whichwould inoculate over 4 million childrenagainst polio!

"This is going tobe a great year"
—Sid Berlin
Last week was once again avery busy week starting with ourboard of directors' meeting throughWednesday evening's visit with thegovernor and on to Thursdaymorning when the governordelivered a powerful and inspiringspeech.
Sid Berlin is a dynamic andmotivated governor. His messageto us transmitted directly hiscommitment to Rotary's highestideals, and more. He is a'doer'—with the belief that we canreally accomplish those ideals. I'msure I can speak for ourmembership in stating myimpression that with Sid at thewheel this is going to be a greatyear. Let's all do our part to enjoyour part of this great year!
Board meetingwith Sid
The governor covered manytopics on his first visit. Hisopening statements were, "I'm hereto help," meaning that he was hereto help us determine the way wewant to uphold Rotary's ideals. Hebrought a sense of organization toour thoughts on RotaryInternational and opened in a warmand friendly way the chanels to hisoffice for our questions andgrowth.
This being one of our firstoutside visits, brought us closer.Let's do it again!
CommitteesCommitteesCommitteesWe are in the process of
organizing committees. Committees are an integral part of anyRotary Club. Committees are howthings get done. They are also away to enjoy each other'scompany. Any job we may havefor Rotary becomes a pleasurewhen we share it with anotherperson.
The formation of committees isa primary objective of our club atthis time, so be thinking where youwant to serve.
Remember we are only asstrong as our membership and ifwe all pull together in our firstyear, not only will we have a greatyear, but we'll set the pace formany many more to come.
We will soon be contactingthose who have already indicatedtheir preference.
