Kindergarten Home Learning

Due to the changes in everyday life we are all experiencing, we have seen some huge variations to the way learning has been delivered in the past few days. We have gone from face to face teaching, to online learning and printed work booklets. Kindergarten children have been working hard with their online learning at home and have already impressed their teachers. Not only has it been a big change for all of our families, but the teachers are having to update their knowledge and skills constantly to keep everyone updated and learning effectively. Seesaw Last Thursday, kindergarten teachers were introduced to an app called Seesaw. We quickly established how to use it and how it would best suit the needs of our families. On the same day, we introduced our families to the Seesaw Class app. Kindergarten teachers have been assigning activities on Seesaw each day. The activities are then completed by the students and are submitted online to their class teacher. The teacher is then able to give the student feedback and assess their knowledge. We have been very busy watching the videos and replying to all of the fantastic work samples that are being posted throughout the day. Videos Kindergarten are watching a handwriting video daily on correct letter formation through Dojo. They then complete this on the card provided in their work pack. Parents are watching a video also on Dojo, instructing them how to do a guided writing lesson. Soon they will be able to watch a video on number formation with all of the rhymes the children use in class. Shout Outs for AMAZING work We would like to acknowledge and give a shout out to all the hard work that parents are doing to ensure that their children are able to access and complete the set tasks. From parents working at home, to parents with more than one child, you are all going above and beyond. Thank you for your support through these tough times.

Stage 1 News We are all learning so much this week; students, parents and teachers too. Our Stage 1 learning platform Seesaw is up and running and many of our students have completed work and uploaded their answers for marking. I congratulate parents for the degree of interest and assistance you have provided for your children. Our sense of community is alive and well as we support each other to do the best for our students. Teachers are enjoying the amount of individual feedback we can provide to the children by using their work samples. We have been able to; like, edit, mark and record responses and send them directly back to the children. There have been videos, voice recordings and drawings exchanged. This immediate feedback is a great way to learn and improve. Some work samples from Year 2 - Day 1

This publication provided by the Department of Education called ‘Helping Your Child with Literacy and Numeracy at Home’ is a great resource which I have uploaded to Dojo for parents to access. Stage 1 team. ”We are all in this together!”

Reading At Home Tips

Make books a part of family life – Always have books around at home. That way you and your children are ready to get reading, even if it’s only for ten minutes.

Read about something they’re interested in – Help your child find the right book for them. It doesn't matter if it's fiction, poetry, comic books or non-fiction.

All reading is good – Don’t discount non-fiction, comics, graphic novels, magazines and leaflets. Reading is reading and it is all

good.

Get comfortable! – Snuggle up somewhere warm and cosy with your child, either in bed, on a beanbag or on the sofa, or make

sure they have somewhere comfy when reading alone.

Ask questions – To keep them interested in the story, ask your child questions as you read such as, ‘What do you think will

happen next?’ or ‘Where did we get to last night? Can you remember what had happened already?’

Read whenever you get the chance – Bring along a book or magazine for any time your child has to wait, such as at a doctor’s

surgery.

Read again and again – Encourage your child to re-read favourite books and poems. Re-reading helps to build up fluency and

confidence.

Bedtime stories – Regularly read with your child or children at bedtime. It’s a great way to end the day and to spend valuable time

with your child.

Rhyme and repetition – Books and poems which include rhyme and repetition are great for

encouraging your child or children to join in and remember the words.

Stage 3 News

We are so proud of all of our Stage 3 students who are giving the online activities and learning a ‘red hot go’! We are amazed at how they are embracing this so quickly. We are also equally proud of our Stage 3 students who are completing the booklets. They are getting into their work and giving it their absolute best. Sentence examples - Word of the week Great job to the students for utilising and applying the word 'adequate' appropriately in their example sentences: - Jeezz this Conoravirus didn't leave us with adequate time to prepare ourselves. By Cooper C - The shop didn’t have adequate stock for all the people. By Riley C - With all the sickness going around, I hope we have adequate supplies of food and toilet paper. By Garry J - I did not have adequate time to have a shower. By Tiana M - The school lunch should be adequate to meet the nutritional needs of growing children. By Luke W Writing example – Pandas If you’re walking through the bright green bamboo forests of China and you see a black and white fuzzball, do not be alarmed it is only a panda. Sleek, black eye shadow and boots. Cool, white face and belly that looks like the animal has rolled down a snowy mountain. Sparkling, brown eyes look deep into your soul and tell you that it is friendly. The innocence surrounds you and all you want to do is hug the black and white cloud that sits and chirps in front of you. This adorable panda with arms like a teddy bear and a face that you simply cannot resist. You lunge forward into its arms and give it a hug like no other. Love binds you two and all you want to do is close your eyes and spend eternity with this panda. by Gethin

Parents and carers Thank you so much to our wonderful parents and carers who have taken on the ‘teacher’ role. You are trying so hard for the sake of your children. If you need to have some time out, one or both of the following would be very relaxing to watch: https://www.georgiaaquarium.org/webcam/jelly-webcam/ https://www.georgiaaquarium.org/webcam/beluga-whale-webcam/

Number talk - The answer is 512 what is the question? Your daughter’s teacher’s birthday is in 2 days! She only has $18 and you have $600. You will help her by giving her chores >:) She does the washing for $25 ($600 - $25 = $575) Your daughter has $43. She wants an extra $30 for shopping. ($575 - $30 = 545) Your daughter now has $73. Unfortunately, she used up all her money on makeup so now you give her $50 to spend on the birthday present. ($545 - $50 = $495) She comes back with a bad present and $34. You check the washing and realise that your careless daughter put too much soap. You storm into her room and demand for half of her leftover pocket money. ($34 divided by 2 equals $17) $495 + $17 = $512 you went from

Kanwal PS Support Unit K/6W K/6Wild have been busy trying to connect online using the Google classroom. Our classroom is up and running and we are looking forward to our first online catch up tomorrow where we will be discussing the text Enemy Pie by Derek Munson. Some of the members of K/6Wild have been watching online as Hugo the Galapagos Tortoise is being fed. Mostly we have been working in booklets and on Studyladder and Skoolbo enjoying spending time with our families.

K-6F Mrs Fitzsimons checked in with all K-6 F this week and was very pleased to hear how well they have been working under the difficult circumstances, working well with the guidance of their parents. Good working routines are still being established by all students and they are excited to share their work and photos of completed activities via the class Dojo app. Google classroom is currently being set up, with the hope, that next week it will effectively be up and running. Mrs Fitzsimons is also quite excited to work with the class via this platform and also to connect with the students and see all the hard work being completed.

K/6K On Friday, 20th March, 2020, K/6King went on an adventure to discover amazing facts about countries from all over the world. We had the opportunity to guess where each country was in the world, and we were pretty clever at this. We looked through travel brochures, recipe books, history snapshots, postcard booklets, books and maps, and discovered which flag belonged to a particular country. Some of the food from other countries looks scrumptious and some looks a bit weird. Learning about other countries and other cultures was exciting. Each student received a prize from a lucky dip that had items from all over the world.
