Pirate day Assembly Thanks to Amalija, Katie, Morgan and

Hamish for leading and performing at

James Merlino We were very privileged to have our

Education Minister and Deputy

Premier, James Merlino, here for our

assembly last Friday.

James announced the ‘Education State’

initiative. This Victorian Government

Project is about improving educational

outcomes for all Victorians, across the

whole education and training sector.

For those of us who are passionate

supporters of public education, it

provides an opportunity to contribute

to discussions and consultations about

how we see education now and where

we think it needs to take us and our

children into the future. You can find

our current strengths and

challenges; what we are striving to

achieve around excellence, equity

and lifelong engagement in learning;

and how we can work differently by

valuing expertise and working in

partnership with communities. We

invite everyone with an interest in

school education to read the Schools

Consultation Paper to further

understand the importance of the

Education State for our schools.

How can people get involved?

We invite all Victorians to

participate in the conversation

about the Education State. We

welcome all ideas, experiences and

aspirations for what can be done to

help make Victoria the Education

State.

Education State sessions will be held

across the state throughout June

and July. Victorians can also join in

Lantern Workshop The Lantern Workshop on

Saturday was so much fun.

Thanks to the mums who

organised this wonderful event

and given so much of their time-

Kate, Bec, Sonja, Pauline and the

whole crew!!! The lanterns look

amazing, and our ‘school of fish’

headed up by a super-sized carp

are going to be glorious at the

Belgrave Lantern Parade this

Saturday. I do hope you will all be

there to celebrate! I can’t wait to

be ‘in the swim’ with you all!

Holiday works at our school

I am very excited to announce

that we have received substantial

financial support from the

Department of Education to have

major improvements carried out

on our buildings and grounds.

This will start in the holidays and

will mean that we will have our

General Purpose Room back, up

and running very soon next term-

and all bright, shiny new, too!

Other works involve roof

plumbing and drainage works,

painting and replacing timbers at

the rear of the main building, new

fire safety equipment and other

improvements.

Help for Refugees We would like to support the

good work of our local refugee

support group ‘Kindred’ by having

a box at the office next week to

collect groceries for refugees in

our community. Pop an item in

and know you are making a

difference.

We have just

been informed

that our Kal-

lista competi-

tors have com-

peted bril-

liantly. What a

fantastic expe-

rience for them

and especially

the fact that

they managed to

reach such a

high level of

competition.

Well done to

Ellen 57th, Taj

54th (out of a

field of about

90), Indi and

Ollie. Congrat-

ulations to you

all and to Indi

(5th) and Ollie

(6th) who made

it through to

the State level

of competition.

What an

achievement. I

know what they

will be doing

during the hol-

idays.....train

ing, training,

training.

Congratulations to all the Kallista competitors that ran at the Yarra Valley Racecourse last week. It's a tough round of competition and it was great to hear how determined and enthusiastic our Kallista competitors were. Results were as follows -

9/10 Girls 11 Girls

Indi Linde 3rd Chloe Pascoe 11th

Grace Belloni 8th

12/13 Girls 11 Boys

Ellen Jones 9th Ollie Grujic 1st

Elysia Mietscke 23rd Oliver Ball 11th

12/13 Boys

Taj Linde 8th

A special mention to Elysia who rolled her ankle early in the race but con-tinued and completed the race. Also bad luck for Billy Martin who in-jured himself the weekend before and couldn't compete.

Ollie G, Ellen and Taj and Indi Linde will be competing at the Eastern Metropolitan Region Championships on Tuesday at the Yarra Valley Racecourse again. Probably, as this Miniscope goes to print. Can't wait to hear how they went.

Hilary Morris, Sports Coordinator.
