Juraj Jánošík
The Slovak hero
Who was he?• He was born in January
1688.• Jánošík has been the
main character of many Slovak legends, novels, poems, and films.
• According to the legend, he robbed nobles and gave the loot to the poor.
Where did he live?• He was born in a
village in central Slovakia-Terchová.
• It is situated in the area of Malá Fatra and Kysuce.
• In the logo of Terchová is Jánošík as an honour to him.
His typical features• He had a Slovakian
traditional valaška.• He always had his hair in braids.• He wore a traditional
folclore costume.• He had a belt with magic
herbals which gave him strength.
His death
• He was tortured at the age of 25• The execution was done in the evening of
17th March 1713 in Šibeničky• They burnt his feet, ripped his tendons
and they hung him on his rib• Now his grave is under the lake Liptovská
Mara, close to his home village
Why is he a hero?• He was a very brave and fair person.• He was taking from rich and giving to poor.• He had his own crew of outlaws• He was fighting for justice and he was brutally
killed because of it.
