The focus of the 27th Session
“Integrated forest and water
management of mountain watersheds:
Experiences and perspectives”
The first WP session was held in Nancy, in 1952.
Since then, sessions have been held on a regular biannual basisregular biannual basis
Twenty-sixth Session of the Working Party was held in Oulu 19 – 22 August 2008
In the focus
“Forests, water and climate change in high altitude and , g ghigh latitude watersheds”
Reception in the Oulu City Hall
Recomendations from Oulu Working Party Session:
• Further research on hydrometeorological processes monitoring• Further research on hydrometeorological processes, monitoring systems, climate change impact models and risk management tools on transnational basis
• Concrete case studies to document climate change impacts on watersheds in high latitudes and altitudes
• The participants agreed also to strengthen linkages to improve co-• The participants agreed also to strengthen linkages to improve co-operation with the European Forestry Commission in the upcoming EFC sessions and in the Forest and Water session during the European Forest Week.
After Oulu the Working Party has taken active steps to strenghtenlinkages with EFC
The Steering Committee participated to the Meeting of
the Bureaux of the UNECE Timber Committee and the
FAO European Forestry Commission on 25th
February 2010 in Geneva
In the report for the meeting item 11 brings up co-operation with EFC and EFC MMW
Item 11 “Presentation of Activities by the Working Party on the Management Mountain Watersheds, request for guidance by EFC and plans for EFC session”p
Main things under discussion were:
• Introduction to the WP MMW• Cooperation between the EFC and the WP MMW• EFC Session on Forests and Water
