Discipleship word of the month: Invite!
If you received an invita#on to a really good party, would you invite a friend? Our Lutheran Youth
Organiza#on (LYO) has about 40 or so members. Many are St Paul’s members, but many are not. Some may
come because they feel a connec#on. Some may come because it’s fun (which it is!). But they all come for
one reason: they were INVITED!
I did not grow up in a “church going” family. Up un#l I was 16, the only experience I had with church was
occasionally a8ending Vaca#on Bible School. But, even that was rare. My church a8endance was non-
existent—a fact I lied about frequently to my “church going” friends because that was almost unheard of in
my Louisiana community.
One day a friend came to me and asked me if I’d like to go with her to church. I agreed to go with her. I was
bap#zed and confirmed a very short #me later. Now, lest you think this was a Bap#st church or some other
church known for their evangelism, let me set the record straight. It was a Lutheran church! Yes, a Lutheran
person (originally from Minnesota) asked me to go with her. I was bap#zed two weeks later!
As young people will do some#mes, we lost touch. She got married, I joined the Air Force, and we moved
(literally) in different direc#ons. A few years ago, through the “miracle” of social networking, we
reconnected. I finally had the opportunity to tell her something I had wanted to for many years: her simple
“hey, want to come to church with me on Sunday?” changed my life!
Is St. Paul, with all its many goings-on, a place that you would want to bring a friend? Is it a place where she
or he would feel welcomed? comfortable? If so, why? And if not, why not?
I invite you to invite someone you know to one of the many ac#vi#es that will be happening at the church in
the coming months.
God’s peace be with you all,
Pastor Candy
The Summer Lunch Program, ‘LG-Lunch Bag’, will again be providing lunches to children
18 years of age and under, from June 8 thru July 31. Volunteers will pick up the lunches
at the La Grange High School Cafeteria. Lunches will not be served July 3, 2015.
The sites for this summer are: the La Grange High School Cafeteria, AMEN, the Public
Library and the City Pool. If you feel that there is another area of need, please let us know.
A grant will cover the cost of the lunches for children who will eat at the sites. LG-Lunch Bag will cover the cost of
the lunches for children who want to take them home, because they are not eaten on site. Volunteers will receive a
short training, as stated in the grant. The #mes of distribu#on are the same: 11:30 to 1:00, daily. We realize not all
children will eat at the sites, but we encourage them to do so.
If you are interested in helping distribute lunches this summer, please call Noreen Dopslauf at 966-3164 or Vicki
Watson at 968-6907. Informa#on on the program can also be found on the website: www.lglunchbag.com. Click on
the “Links” page and you may also sign up on Volunteer Spot. You can also email Jay Watson at
[email protected] if you have further ques#ons.
Monetary dona#ons for LG-Lunch Bag may be made to St. Paul, in order to receive credit on your statement of
giving, and Melinda will forward to LG-Lunch Bag. This is a great opportunity for the children of La Grange to receive
and for our community of La Grange to give.
President’s CornerPresident’s Corner
This is such an exciting time of the year for so many of our young people. Many of them are graduating either from high school or college, and moving on to the next phase of their lives. We pray that their transition will be smooth and we wish them much success in whatever their future may hold.
Shifting gears a little to what is happening around the church. I am sure all of you have noticed that some of the stained glass has been removed from the Sanctuary and is currently undergoing repair. We understand that the missing glass detracts from the look of the church, and the timing of this project was not necessarily the best, but it needed to be done. Much of this glass was in jeopardy of falling out, and this created somewhat of a safety issue.....we did not want anyone being injured. We also want to preserve the beauty, as well as, the value of these windows. The cost to replace the stained glass would be prohibitive, but realistically, the glass panels are priceless to our church.
Also, the bid requests will be going out soon to pressure wash all of the brick on the outside of the church, repair the areas where the mortar is missing, re-caulk around the windows and seal the brick with transparent waterproofing. As mentioned at our special called meeting on April 26, we did have one company that has held their price for two years, but in the interest of due diligence, we will seek at least one additional bid. After that, we hopefully can proceed with this project very soon.
Finally, many of you may have noticed that someone has moved into the house recently purchased by the church (next to the church office, formally owned by Ruth Ashley). In April, our fellow church members, Bonnie and Ronnie Schielack, tragically lost their home due to a fire. Being that they were in need of a place to stay and we had this house available, we opened our arms and our home to them during their time of transition. We thank God for our ability to help them in this way.
I want to wish everyone a safe and enjoyable summer.
Yours in Christ, Paul Mikula

Thank you for allowing us to hold our retirement and estate strategies workshop at your location on April 30. You have a wonderful facility and we appreciate the opportunity to utilize it for our event.

Thank you very much for once again allowing us to hold our dinner in your driveway. With the rain, letting us work from inside was extremely helpful. We appreciate all you have done to help us with our fundraiser. We look forward to 2016!
