Stage Notes Guidelines and Disclaimer

Stage notes and associated videos from Jemba AB / Dolium Pty Ltd are intended to give a

general description of the roads at the time of doing the route survey. They do not advise

the speed at which to drive the road.

Crews choosing to use this information do so entirely at their own risk.

Crews MUST conduct their own reconnaissance of the roads to check & update the notes

and identify any hazards. The responsibility rests with the crew and driver to traverse the

stages safely and within their capabilities at all times .

While every effort is taken with the preparation and production of the notes and video, no

responsibility can be accepted for their accuracy or suitability .

Any party involved in the design of the notes and video disclaim any and all liability for any

Jemba Stage Notes - Description and Glossary

Note: For the AMH Automotive Group Rally of the Bay the Notes are prepared to have Grade number given before direction and the +/- shown

after direction

Grade of corner

The grade of the corner is measured and describes the relative speed through a corner. There are 16 graduations in the corner definitions with 6 primary grades and then plus or minus refinements. + after the direction means a slightly FASTER corner. - after the direction means a slightly SLOWER corner. Additional descriptors for a corner are added after grades and direction in the order they apply. Consequently 5Llg> is a little different from 5L>lg.

Duration of corner Information for duration is given after corner direction.

Information Note Length in metres is less than a normal corner of indicated grade but at least same angle.

short

Normal duration More duration than normal lg Very long duration Vlg Extra Long - Even longer duration (actual length may also be given) Xlg

Changing Corner.

Information Note

”Tightens”or ”Closes”. Corner becomes slower. The slower grade will be indicated if there is a difference of two or more steps in the grades Eg: 6L >4,

>

”Opens”. As above but indicating a faster grade. Grade is not given for the continuation.

<

Note that changing corners will give a longer combined corner than the basic corner.

Cautions - warnings (refer NRC Article 3.2 for definitions)

Information (same principle as in Road Books – but Cautions used in Jemba notes may not always be the same as in the Road Books or on the roadside signs)

Note

”Caution”. !

”Double Caution”. !!

Distances/Straights Distance from start of stage is given in the left-hand column at the start of each line of the notes. The distance remaining on the stage is given below the overall distance inside ( ). Length of straights are measured:

• from the exit of a corner (when the road becomes straight) to the entry of the next corner (when the road ceases to be straight).

• to/from the peak of Cr as seen from a distance • to the peak of a Cr as seen from a distance, but from when you see the surface of the

road after a lgCr.

Information Note

There is no discernable straight between corners. i.e. 4L into 3L into

There is a discernable straight between corners but it is less than 30 m. The distance of Straights shorter than 30 m are only given when particularly important, usually before or after crests Eg. Cr 20 4L

NOTE: Some crews may prefer for the Co-Driver to call “AND” between these calls to denote there is no given distance. This is your decision Eg: 3L & 5R

Distance (approx.) of mostly straight road in metres between corners/objects.

NOTE: On the longer straights Co-Drivers should Zero Tripmeter at start of Straight to better advise the driver as you near the end of Straight.

30, 50, 70, 100, 120, 150, 180, 200, 250...

Crest (brow)

Information Note Crest/brow. May be enough to unsettle the car at higher speeds Cr Small Crest/brow. Possible loss of vision but minor effect on car SmCr Big crest. Road falls away steeply - big loss of grip Big Cr Jump, car may leave the ground at higher speeds Jmp Bump, the road surface may be uneven as a result of ruts, mounds or rocks poking up or other situations which upset handling

Bmp

- as above but typically across full width of road hump / yump Big bump, severe bump (potentially car damaging) Big bmp Dip, road in a shallow V shape Dip

Over Information Note

”Over”. Usually associated with Cr which begins before end of a corner so the crest may cause bad grip through the corner. e.g. 3L/smCr. May also be used with a bridge or other objects (e.g. /][ or stay L/Cr).

/

Miscellaneous Information Note

Bridge ][ Don’t go wide at exit of corner (“nar” may also be used for this) stay in Follow the road left or right (e.g. keep 5L) keep Turn into another road or track (not always used at junctions) turn Narrow (if at a turn may indicate trees close on exit) nar Off camber o.c. Road Rd Don’t cut. There is an obstacle inside the corner. d.c.

Miscellaneous The first page of the stage notes for each stage may give: • page number, and total number of pages for the stage concerned*. • name of the event* • stage name, number, and length* • detail of the actual start location • a brief description of the stage *these details are repeated on each subsequent page
