This time Mark has really outdone himself with his discovery of Adolph Hoffman’s grave, which was lost from the fraternity for many years. JUNE BRINGS MANY ENDINGS AND ALSO MANY NEW BEGINNINGS!

Grand Officer Updates

Congratulations to all of our graduating Brothers who transitioned in May and June to becoming our newest Alumni Brothers. Our unity is strengthened by each and every one of you! It is sad to think of physically leaving your Chapter, but you do not have to leave Phi Delta Chi. As you start your new life, please seek out Phi Delta Chi in your communities and regions. They will welcome you with open arms! Stay active with your Chapter, make sure

they know where you are, attend events when you can, and support them with advice and guidance. Your Chapter will always need you as an Alumni Delegate at Regional Conferences and Grand Council and it is a great time to get back in touch with friends you haven’t seen in awhile. My biggest regret is losing contact with my Chapter after graduation and I remember vividly the joy of reconnecting with them again. I also want to offer congratulations to the

numerous Brothers that will be starting residencies shortly, I am proud that Phi Delta Chi Brothers have matched with so many in the competitive nature of this process. I wish all graduating Brothers the best of luck in your future careers and know that you will all strive to be Leaders in Pharmacy.

It is sad to say goodbye to our outgoing Regional Correspondents, but we welcome the opportunities ahead for

Nic, Drew, Rachel, Erin, John, Hovik, Andrew, and Chephra as they are now fully transitioned into their new roles. Please utilize them, as well as your entire Regional Team! They are there to help you be successful in all aspects of fraternal life. Serving as a Regional Director is a great way to give back to the fraternity a small piece of what you have gained. Please keep an eye out for these opportunities.

Now is the time to register for LDS! This is a great experience for all Brothers, but in particular if you have started a new leadership role in your Chapter. Learn how to be the best you, you can be! The skills you learn at LDS will not only allow you to come back to your Chapter ready to start the new school year full steam ahead, but will help you throughout your life. Don’t

hesitate to invest in your future! I will see you there……..

Fraternally,

Amy Valdez

Grand President

I often talk with Brothers across the country who are looking for ways to give back to the Fraternity. I am always very happy to hear their enthusiasm and gladly point them to the opportunities to stay active in Phi Delta Chi. Wether it be through committee work, conference facilitation, or monetary donation, a little AAAE goes a long way in our organization! Another way Brothers who want more can give to PDC while continuing to develop their leadership and professional skills after graduation is to serve as Regional Director of Collegiate Affairs (RDCA) or Regional Director of Alumni Affairs (RDAA) for one of our eight Regions.

Brothers sometimes miss the chance to apply for these positions for different reasons. The lost opportunity is commonly the result of that Brother not being directly connected with the current Executive Council (EC) members. Another reason may be that the Brother is less versed in National/Regional Operations and may not know what a Regional Director does or how to apply for the position.

To recruit and utilize the best Brothers for the job, it is necessary to explain the

qualifications and duties of the positions in addition to clearly conveying the expectations for holding each office. To avoid underutilizing Phi Delta Chi’s most precious resource, our network of willing Brothers, the EC members and I are building a list of “Brothers Who Want More.” The tool will be passed onto the next executives, so that Brothers throughout time will be offered new and exciting opportunities to stay active in the Fraternity.

Directors of Collegiate Affairs serve as a conduit between collegiate chapters, chapter advisors, and the Fraternity. RDCAs work closely with their chapters to ensure and assist them in operating by Phi Delta Chi’s nine Constitutional Standards. Alumni Affairs Directors serve to introduce the collegiate Brothers to alumni topics, thereby preparing them for the transition to alumni status. The RDAA also supports Alumni Brother needs and advocates the development, implementation, and review of programming geared towards them. The RDCA and RDAA collaborate with the Regional Correspondent (RC) to manage the activities of the region they represent. Some activities include serving as

either secretary or parliamentarian at the Regional Conference, participating on Chapter Excellence and Quality Program Visit Teams, and partaking in the Fraternity’s Strategic Planning Retreat at St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. Attendance at these various meetings and visits will require that the Regional Directors be able to travel throughout their region and country on a few occasions throughout the year.

My office, GVPCA, and the GVPAA advise and support the Regional Directors by enabling them to effectively execute any strategic plan the Regional Team has to assist collegiate chapters in meeting their needs. Regional Directors are obligated to communicate with either the GVPCA and GVPAA on at least a monthly basis. The Regional Team should also communicate frequently to have an shared understanding of what is going on with each of their chapters. Regional Directors are expected to attend Regional Conferences and Grand Councils and their attendance at Leader-Development Seminars is encouraged. Qualifications to serve as a Regional Director include membership as a Graduate or Alumnus Brother in

good standing with the Fraternity and a one year commitment to the duties of the office.

I feel that every interested Brother should have the chance to apply for RDCA and RDCC. I would like to formally announce the Executive Director Kenny Walkup, Grand Vice President for Alumni Affairs Lindsay Watson, and I are now accepting applications for the positions of RDCA and RDAA in each of the eight Regions of Phi Delta Chi (click here for application or navigate to http://www.phideltachi.org/about/officers/32-regional-officers). The

one year appointments will be made by the Executive Council during the meeting Leader-Development Seminar this summer. Applications are due by August 1, 2012.

If you have questions about the position of Regional Director of Collegiate Affairs please feel free to contact me. [email protected]. If you have questions about the position of Regional Director of Alumni Affairs please feel free to contact Lindsay Watson. [email protected].

Should you be a “Brother Who Wants More” but do not think the position

of Regional Director is right for you, please contact me so I can add you to the network and get you working on a project or two that will help Phi Delta Chi meet her many goals while helping you to meet yours!

AAAE,

Lexie
