We just had a visit from our Regional Chair, Michelle Bailey who was only here for a week, but we were very glad to meet and get to know her! Thank you Michelle for your time! We would also like to say goodbye to our Publicity Chair, Jessica Franklin, who will be moving on to other opportunities. Jessica has been working hard for over a year to develop public relations and advertisement around base so we can better communicate with our volunteers and our community. A huge thank you Jessica for your service! The DAT held its first event Shelter on the Support Site in conjunction with this event. To say the least it was a great success for the DAT. The local base Emergency Management team under the leadership of Mr. Michael Henshaw and MM1 Capolung set up a tent shelter and provided cots for this event. DAT team members set up the displays and gave brief tours to more than two dozen families and many interested children. Of particular interest shown by community members is the need for pet emergency kits and pet first aid kits. Many came away with a greater understanding of the need for emergency preparedness not only for themselves but also for their four legged companions. Besides exposure to the support site community, it was a very constructive and fun time for the DAT. Bravo Zulu to the NSA Emergency Management team for making this happen. Upcoming events for the DAT will be a static display on emergency kits in the NEX Mall in July and the Great Naples Shakeout in Oct. More to follow. Hello fellow volunteers,

Summer is around the corner, and your American Red Cross will be very busy!

We just had a visit from our Regional Chair, Michelle Bailey who was only here for a week, but we were very glad to meet and get to know her! Thank you Michelle for your time!

A message from our Disaster Action Team Chair, Jeff Arter

On Sat, 19 May the local Navy Exchange with the cooperation of the Morale, Welfare, and Recreation Dept of the Naval

Support Activity hosted a Customer Appreciation Day at the Support Site. The DAT held its first event Shelter on the

Support Site in conjunction with this event. To say the least it was a great success for the DAT. The local base

Emergency Management team under the leadership of Mr. Michael Henshaw and MM1 Capolung set up a tent shelter and

provided cots for this event. DAT team members set up the displays and gave brief tours to more than two dozen families

and many interested children. Of particular interest shown by community members is the need for pet emergency kits and

pet first aid kits. Many came away with a greater understanding of the need for emergency preparedness not only for

themselves but also for their four legged companions. Besides exposure to the support site community, it was a very

constructive and fun time for the DAT. Bravo Zulu to the NSA Emergency Management team for making this happen.

Upcoming events for the DAT will be a static display on emergency kits in the NEX Mall in July and the Great Naples

Hello Naples Volunteers, I know everyone is getting geared up for the summer months and looking

forward to fun in the sun. So while I have you all thinking about being in the sun, your local

American Red Cross is planning for this years’ 4th of July celebration. We are looking for great

volunteers to help with our part in the preparation for this grand event. We hope to have an

information and recruitment table to display our local American Red Cross workings in our

community and to recruit individuals to help fulfill our mission. There will also be opportunities for

volunteers to fundraise at this event as well and look for more information about this from Lewis

Heuermann; [email protected] our Chair of Volunteers.

With the summer months quickly approaching please remember to be safe, and don’t forget the sun

block too! Have fun and remember your American Red Cross appreciates all that you do!

Ciao Jacquie

Volunteer Connection

Red Cross is going to Volunteer Connection for all volunteers.

Volunteer Connection is a web-based, organization-wide system that will streamline

the way we attract, match, train, deploy and retain volunteers. our objective is to

improve our response to community needs and deliver services of the Red Cross

mission using one of our greatest assets--the talents, time and dedication of 650,000

volunteers.

Current volunteers will be able to see all of their information regarding their volunteer

service, and will be receiving an email regarding the new Volunteer Connection.

Transitioning will begin in June and will take some time to migrate all of our

volunteers.

Volunteer of the Quarter

ERIN HYMANS

As a volunteer at the Naples Support Site Library, Erin Hymans works to bring reading to the community. Erin started a reading program, "Reading is Delicious" where she reads stories to children of the community. "The first solo Storytime had only 3 children in attendance, but it has grown to a regular group of about 10," says Erin. "with some weeks participation as high as 18. I follow themes already set out for me, but I pick all the books (2 per story time) and develop the craft." Erin also manages many unseen jobs to help the library run smoother. "I assist the head librarian with all of the special events, such as visiting authors and book discussions," Erin explained. "I help shelve books and other materials, assist with the check-in/check-out process, and help organize the shelves. I have also helped with updating bibliographies and researching for contests." At the American Red Cross Volunteer Appreciation event in April, Erin received special recognition from the library thanking her for her hard work and dedication to the community. Erins' hard work and dedicated volunteerism with the Red Cross earned her the Volunteer of the Quarter award. Congratulations!
