WELCOME V F L & FARRER We welcome to-day the V.F.L.

Second Eighteens and the Farrer League. The matches will provide, we hope the answer to the question of gauging the standard of our N.S.W. football. The N.S.W.—V.F.L, teams will be playing for the Ralph Hambly Shield—named after one of Australian Football's finest administrators. The N.S.W.F.L. enjoys a harmonious relationship with the V.F.L. II League who take every opportunity to help the game here in N.S.W.

We also welcome to-day another staunch ally of the N.S.W.A.F.L in the Farrer League. This particular League headed by President Gerald Clear has been instrumental in forging the close links that exists today between the Sydney and Riverina Australian Football Leagues. We look forward to their match against Combined Sydney and trust we can reciprocate the visit.

Finally to our own N.S.W. side—here's hoping for a good result— a big welcome to our Riverina and Newcastle players along with your Sydney teammates. Welcome also V.F.L. Umpire Ray Sleeth who will control the game and warm appreciation to you, the supporters of the game for your attendance.

COMBINED SECOND DIVISION WIN Last week end a combined Second Division side under Coach Les Radford,

competed in the Newcastle Queen's Birthday Carnival.

In their first match on Sunday Sydney defeated University of New England. The scores were Sydney 13.10 (88), University New England 5.9 (39). Our best were Bob Pine, Terry Pleming, Grant Luhrs and the redoubtable Rod Tubbs.

This win over. University of New England who were the 1971 Carnival champions put Sydney into the Final against Newcastle.

Newcastle, fresh from a day's respite defeated Sydney who had been hard hit by injuries.

Next year it is hoped to conduct a country carnival in Albury at the Laving-ton Football ground with Country Leagues from all of N.S.W.
