Venerable Matt Talbot (1856-1925; Memorial June 18th) Anyone who has ever suffered from alcoholism, or watched a friend or family member struggle with it knows how painful it can be. After only a few years of schooling, Talbot worked for a liquor merchant and began to drink heavily for 15 years, until he was almost 30. One day he decided to quit drinking for 3 months. He went to confession and began attending daily Mass. 3 months turned into a life lived soberly, although the initial years were especially difficult. Finding work as a builder/laborer, Talbot was deeply devoted to praying the Rosary and was an avid reader of Scripture and the lives of the saints. Although he was by no means wealthy, he contributed generously to the missions. He died on his way to Mass on Trinity Sunday. 50 years later, Pope Pius VI declared him ‘venerable.’ He reminds us all to take one day at a time.

PETER’S PENCE On the weekend of June 24-25, our diocese will take up the Peter’s Pence Collection. Your generosity to this fund helps provide for the charitable work of Pope Francis as he reaches out to those who are marginalized and suffering
around the globe. By supporting this collection, you join the Holy Father in bringing a little more mercy into the world. Pope Francis called to us in his 2016 ‘Urbi et Orbi’ address, “May efforts be made everywhere to promote the culture of encounter, justice and reciprocal respect, which alone can guarantee the spiritual and material welfare of all people.” Your contributions make it possible for the Pope to carry out his charitable works around the world, to help victims of war, natural disasters and other difficult situations. Please prayerfully consider how you can best support the collection this year.
COME AND BE FILLED WITH THE HOLY SPIRIT!

The retreat weekend begins with dinner on Friday and concludes with Sunday morning Mass. The cost is an offering commensurate with what your financial situation and your conscience dictates. If you cannot attend the whole weekend, then come and attend part of it. More information is available and reservations can be made by c o n t a c t i n g C h a r l i e C a r b o a t [email protected] or 610-431-3686 or you can make reservations directly with Malvern at http://www.malvernretreat.com/ or phone 610 644-0400.
