Dear parents, caregivers and school community, Thank you for working with us since the return to “normal” school routines. We sincerely appreciate that some of the new procedures regarding staying off school grounds, adult social distancing and keeping children home more regularly if unwell has been difficult for you. We must follow the Government and Department policies and guidelines surrounding COVID19 restrictions. There is no wiggle room and there are no special allowances that can be made. I am grateful that you are taking these as seriously as we are for the safety of our staff, our kids and for yourselves. Illness We have had a wave of students with cold/viral infection type symptoms in the past week or so. Thank you to those that have been keeping your kids home and letting us know. If your child presents to school with these symptoms or complains of these symptoms, we will be phoning you to collect them straight away. It is appreciated that this may inconvenience you. It is departmental regulation that this occurs and we are obligated to report it further if the policy is not adhered to. Once again, it is for the safety of our community and our vulnerable people, that as restrictions start to lift, we play it safe when it comes to illness. If your child is unwell, keep them home. Conflict resolution and accepting others We are working hard at school to empower our students to use strategies such as our “High Five” when faced with conflict in the playground. Swearing, sledging and bullying behaviour is not accepted at our school. Serious consequences and parent meetings will be administered for those students who are found to be consistently reported to teachers regarding their unacceptable treatment of their peers in the playground. We pride ourselves at Yangan State School on our inclusivity and diversity. Every single student, staff member and parent is deeply valued for their unique personality and skills they bring to our school. It does not matter what we look like, how tall we are, what sport we like, how many acres of land we own, what car we drive and what brand clothing we wear. We instil these values constantly at school and know that you all work hard to support this at home also. Using unkind words and judging others based on superficial ideologies will not be tolerated from students at this school. We are encouraging students to report serious language, sledging and bullying incidents straight away so we are able to assist, rectify and give consequences swiftly.

Report Cards- Semester 1 2020 Due to the pause in normal schooling for many weeks due to COVID 19, the Department of Education adjusted their expectations regarding what schools will assess and report to parents about student progress in Semster 1 2020. We will still be delivering a report card for your children, but in a reduced format. We have decided, when completing our continuity of learning plan prior and during the learning @ home period, to assess and report on:
- English - Mathematics - Science - Humanities and Social Sciences
We have continued teaching subjects such as Arts, Music, and Technologies however upon the recommendations made by the Department, these Learning Areas have the most evidence gathered by our teachers to make sound judgements on our student’s achievements and improvements. To allow teachers to teach, assess and give every student the best opportunity to demonstrate their learning in assessment, report cards will be issued on Friday 31 July (Term 3, Week 3).
