THE CHAIR IN ORGANIZATIONAL AND STRATEGIC INTELLIGENCE

Launched on February 2011, and headed by Stephanie Dameron, the chair is founded by four companies, namely PSA Peugeot Citroën, Sanofi, Sogeti (Cap Gemini) and Total, for four years to develop research projects and training courses related to organizational and strategic intelligence. The Chair in Organizational and Strategic Intelligence is focused on the mastery of strategic information as a central issue in the management of any organization operating in a competitive environment. Strategic information refers to the data, ideas, or facts that are interpreted as sensitive for organizations’ competitiveness. This notion became a key issue in the academic field as a result of the work of H. Simon, J. March and the writings of H. Wilensky (1967). While H. Simon and J. March’s work analyzes the cognitive limitations of individuals in collecting and processing information, the work of H. Wilensky analyzes structural and cultural obstacles to the flow of information that is necessary to fuel strategic processes. Along with this line, the aim of the Chair is to study individual and organizational capabilities in order to better deal with strategic information. In this context, we seek to study social practices and to enrich and construct strategic tools that can improve the collection, the interpretation and the communication of strategic information. At the moment, the chair finances five research programs, two PhDs and gathers a team of six professors of Paris-Dauphine University. The five research axes are:

• Circulation of strategic information • Business intelligence and internationalization • Reputation and e-reputation of organizations • Weak signals • Energy and competitive intelligence

KEYNOTE SPEAKER

Emmanuel LAZEGA CSO, SCIENCES PO PARIS FRANCE [email protected] SESSION 4 Emmanuel Lazega is professor at Sciences Po Paris. His research focuses primarily on organizational and social networks analysis as a means to explain collective action, with the overarching aim of contributing to the development of a neo-structural sociology. His approach combines observation, modeling, correlation and comparison of the generic social processes of social life at the meso level, for instance particularistic solidarity and exclusion, collective socialization and learning processes, social control and conflict management and regulation and institutionalization, in order to better understand how the contemporary "organizational society" works. A number of interdisciplinary collaborations are at the root of the development of this neo-structural approach, notably with network statisticians. Models also had to be developed in order to produce robust and reliable analyses of complex data, for example in the field of multi-level network dynamics. Emmanuel Lazega co-directs a research group on intra- and inter-organizational networks (orio.dauphine.fr/), which aims to help PhD students and researchers maintain the methodological and technical skills necessary to carry out such analyses. His work about networks is known worldwide through his publications in sociology, law and management reviews, as well as various books.

PRACTICAL INFORMATION A printer will be available in room P417 (Wing P – 4th Floor) during the workshop. Getting to Paris-Dauphine University There are three possible routes that one can take in order to reach Paris-Dauphine University (as the map below shows): 1. Metro/underground: Taking Line 2 (blue line), stop at the terminal/station “Porte

Dauphine” and exit “Place Bugeaud”. Upon exiting, you will see the University across the plaza.

2. Train: You can also take the RER C. This option, you will stop at “Avenue Foch” and exit Place Maréchal Delattre de Tassigny. Turn left in order to arrive at the University.

3. Bus: The University is also reachable by bus. If you decide to do so, take the PC 1 bus until it stops at Place Dauphine Maréchal Delattre de Tassigny (slightly complicated to pronounce in French). The bus will then stop at Boulevard Lannes; from there, the University is visible.

An indispensible website for organizing your transport throughout Paris is http://ratp.fr To plan your route, simply input your hotel’s address in the departure field, and “Université Paris-Dauphine Place Maréchal Delattre de Tassigny, Paris 16” in the arrival field. The website is also available in English. Furthermore, the following is a map of the University and its surroundings:

TUESDAY NIGHT SOCIAL EVENT INFORMATION We will enjoy our Monday night social event in the district of Montmartre. Montmatre is a hill in the north of Paris which is primarily known for the white-domed Basilica of the Sacré Cœur on its summit and because many artists had studios or worked around the community of Montmartre (Salvador Dalí, Claude Monet, Piet Mondrian, Pablo Picasso and Vincent van Gogh…)

We will spend the evening at Espace Montmatre which is a place benefiting from a panoramic view of Paris, from the Sacré Coeur to the Eiffel Tower.

At the first level of a building built for the Parisian Universal Exposition of 1900, we will enjoy a diner at the covered terrace. The place is located 2 minutes away from the Place du Tertre, a reminder of the time when Montmartre was the mecca of modern art. Address: Espace Montmatre - 5 rue Saint Eleuthère - 75018 PARIS Subway Station: Anvers (Line 2) Beginning time: 19:30
