We are encouraging use of all our outdoor spaces, including the quiet area. The old tree between our office and Kindergarten block now has seating around it. It’s so nice to see students lying on the grass in this area, we now have the sail erected for further shade here, soon to follow is a yarning circle. Extra seating has been placed on the grass in this area for students and staff to enjoy. We have also opened the multipurpose court for Kindergarten to use during their breaks. P&C MEETING TONIGHT P&C will meet again tonight using Zoom on Monday 15 June at 7pm. Details attached. This meeting will be very important, as the Executive will ask you to vote on changing the P&C constitution to allow us all to hold virtual meetings, like this one and the previous two. I am sure our Zoom connection will be better this time. SENTRAL PARENT PORTAL Either in Term 2 Week 10 or Term 3 Week 1, students' Semester 1 academic reports will be sent out via the Sentral Parent Portal (S.P.P.). It is important that you have access to the S.S.P, otherwise you will be unable to view your child's report. LAST CHANCE TO COMPLETE THE SURVEY HERE: https://forms.gle/aTYbfUeFeW8W8vtk6 If you haven’t already completed our remote learning survey (we are now at 89 family responses). This survey will close this Friday 19 July. UNIFORM UPGRADES My, how your children have grown! It may be time to invest in more uniform pieces that fit your child comfortably. Our tireless uniform shop coordinator, Samm, and her helpers are still volunteering their time to fill your online orders. Take a look at your child’s school hat-is it frayed or in good condition? Take a look at your child’s trousers, skort, shorts and jackets- are they too tight? Take a look at their shoes- are they black? Sport runners go with our sport uniform only. Take a look at your child’s hair…it must be tied back for learning if it is long.

Principal’s Message

Dear Parents and Carers, The winter sun creates a feeling of happiness, I see students gravitating towards it in their break times. We are encouraging use of all our outdoor spaces, including the quiet area. The old tree between our office and Kindergarten block now has seating around it. It’s so nice to see students lying on the grass in this area, we now have the sail erected for further shade here, soon to follow is a yarning circle. Students occasionally tell us they do not need new articles of uniform because they are leaving our school at the end of the year. This is simply not correct; students deserve, as a life skill, to learn that they should be dressed proudly at all times, ready for learning. It is an expectation of being an active learner. Our school uniform allows us to be recognised as a Strathfield South Public School member; it creates an important feeling of belonging. Further information about the DoE School Uniform Policy can be found here. We are a proud school. Our community expects our students to come ready for school, dressed in their school uniform every day. There are lots of choices to suit all parent and student tastes. Please ensure your child comes to school ready to learn in their school uniform. If you have any difficulties to share about affording our uniform, please contact the school office. Ms Cidem will happily discuss your concerns with you.

SAFETY FIRST We have had a great deal of rainy weather lately and the predictions are for more rain to come this winter. Whilst it is important for students to stay dry arriving and departing, umbrellas should be in the hands of adults not children. The pokey/pointy ends have to be held up high and it is best that an adult is in charge of this item. Children should be dressed in raincoats or at least their SSPS school jacket. It is a warm, rain and wind protective layer.

WHAT’S NEW NEXT WEEK ❖ Our School Orchestra will begin practice in the school hall on Tuesday 16 June at 7:45am. Teachers

will meet students at the Telopea Ave gate, where they will enter and go straight to the hall. We are sorry to inform you that no siblings or parents can enter our grounds at this time.

GENERAL REMINDERS ❖ The library is open for borrowing

fortnightly. You can view how to use the click and collect video link here:

❖ New guidelines for families from the NSW government

❖ Enrol your child for Kindergarten 2021 – details from our office.

Have a wonderful week of learning,

Karen Mortimer Principal
