Finding the profound in the mundane. It’s an idea I first started hearing about several years ago. I am so blessed to have been a stay-at-home-mom for over 10 years, and it was during that time that I began my journey to get closer to God. I found several websites and blogs that were written for SAHMs, and were written by Catholic Christian women who had been down the road I was taking. I began reading things about how important it was to fill my mind with wholesome ideas and thoughts, so that I could convey them to my chil-dren. And about how I was responsible for maintaining an environment of peace and mer-cy in my home for them to grow and blossom. And about the fact that I would be the first to teach my children about the Lord and that my actions would speak so much louder than anything I would say. And it was about this time that I started hearing many other moms talk about feeling frustrated, stuck, bored, or like they had failed, in their own relationship with God. Through this honest sharing of stories about what really goes on in their minds and hearts, these mothers taught me how to find God every day in the seemingly mundane tasks I was doing. One of my favorite examples is that we can use laundry time to pray for our husbands and children. The idea was simple… each time I would fold an article of clothing, I would say a specific prayer for the person who would wear it. And it worked with dishes and other housecleaning as well. I knew in my heart that being a stay home mom and housewife was what God called me to be, but by doing these extra prayers, I began to feel the importance of my “job”. Mothers, your ability to make an excellent grilled cheese, or to rock any crying baby to sleep are certainly necessary and very significant, but always remember the prayers we parents offer for our children far exceed the new pair of tennis shoes in terms of changing their lives and keeping them safe. I know this parish is full of prayerful moms and grandmas – I see you here at daily Mass and in the Adoration Chapel. I read your requests on the prayer chains. I listen when you share with me, your intentions. And I pray for you, as I hope you do for me. This world is so full of distraction and we all seem to be running on the hamster wheel at times, just trying to get everything done in the hours we have. I challenge myself and you to find some God in the mundane activities of our lives. He is there, waiting for us to notice Him! Have a wonderful and blessed week.

My Dear Parishioners, Happy Fourth of July weekend. This weekend finds our nation rejoicing together in thanksgiving for our nation’s freedom. Freedom comes at a great price. Just think of all those who have sacrificed themselves – and are now sacrificing their lives – so that we CAN enjoy freedom from tyranny and oppression. Let us offer a prayer in gratitude for our nation and for those who make it possible for us to live in freedom. Mass on this Monday, July 4th, will be at 9am. Have a Blessed week.

St. Anthony Weekly Calendar July 4th to July 10th,

Prayer for the Protection of Religious Liberty

O God our Creator, from your provident hand we have received our right to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. You have called us as your people and given us the right and duty to worship you, the only true God, and your Son, Jesus Christ. Through the power and working of your Holy Spirit, you call us to live out our faith in the midst of the world, bringing the light and the saving truth of the Gospel to every corner of society. We ask you to bless us in our vigilance for the gift of religious liberty. Give us the strength of mind and heart to readily defend our freedoms when they are threatened; give us courage in making our voices heard on behalf of the rights of your Church and the freedom of conscience of all people of faith. Grant, we pray, O heavenly Father, a clear and united voice to all of your sons and daughters gathered in your Church in this decisive hour in the history of our nation, so that, with every trial withstood and every danger over-come—for the sake of our children, our grandchildren, and all who come after us—the great land will always be “one nation, under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all.” We ask this through Christ our Lord. Amen.
