Week by Week through The Year of Mercy

Last Sunday, Jesus rebuked James and John for wanting to

“call down fire from heaven” (Luke 9:54-55_ on an unwel-

coming town. As he sends forth disciples today. Jesus again

forbids retaliation against non-receptive listeners (10:10-11),

showing us how to be Jesus’ “missionaries of mercy” this

Jubilee Year of Mercy. Like the first disciples, we are

sent not to proclaim ourselves but Jesus. As Jesus sent

them in pairs, so we also to work together in the com-

munity of the Church. We often describe the Church

as Isaiah describes Jerusalem in today’s first read-

ing, our comforting, nurturing Mother (Isaiah

66:13). So, going forth gently, like lambs among

wolves (Luke’s image for Eucharist), and Jesus

bids us proclaim the kingdom of God by showing

what God’s kingdom looks like in action. “Go

preach the Gospel, “Pope Francis’ saintly namesake

of Assis is said to have instructed his first friars, “and

when necessary, use words!”

Semana tras semana durante el Año de la Mesericordia

El pasado domingo, Jesús reprendió a Santiago y Juan por querer hacer

“bajar fuego del cielo” (Lucas 9:54-55) a un pueblo que no los recibió.

Hoy, al enviar discípulos, Jesús también les prohíbe represalias contra

quienes no los escuchan (10:10-11), mostrándonos como ser los

“discípulos de misericordia” de Jesús este Año de la misericordia. Como

los primeros discípulos, somos enviados no a proclamarnos nosotros sino

a Jesús. Así como Jesús nos envió de dos en dos, así también nosotros

trabajamos juntos en la comunidad de la Iglesia. A menudo, descri-

bimos la Iglesia como Isaías describe a Jerusalén en la primera

lectura de hoy, nuestro consuelo nuestra madre atenta y amo-

rosa (Isaías 66:13). Así, saliendo lentamente, como corderos

en medio de lobos (Lucas 10:3), compartimos paz reconfor-

tante, alimentos y bebidas nutritivas (Una imagen de Lucas

acerca de la Eucaristía) y, la promesa de sanación de Jesús de

la misericordia incondicional e infalible (10:5, 7, 9). Asimis-

mo Jesús nos invita a proclamar el reino de Dios mostrando

como es que su Reino se ve en acción. San Francisco de

Asís, de quien el Papa Francisco tomo su nombre, solía decirle

a sus primeros frailes “vayan y prediquen el Evangelio y si es

necesario utilicen palabras”.

Did you know?

Parents should avoid lecturing and start talking Lecturing teenagers may feel like the right path to take, espe-

cially if they are starting to develop bad habits or make poor

choices, but lecturing is usually the least effective way to

get your message across. Children tend to see lectures as con-

descending and abstract, and this detracts from the wisdom

and advice you are trying to provide. Instead of lecturing, try

to engage your child in calm, open conversation that address-

Several newly elected officers attended the Quarterly Dis-

trict Meeting to start planning for the new fraternal year.

parish’s youth and hope to expand our charitable outreach.

Annual Filipino Dinner

Queen of Angel’s Annual Filipino Dinner will be on Saturday,

July 16th following the 5:00 p.m. Mass. Tickets will be avail-

able after weekend Masses. Adults $8 and children under 10

years of age $4. Ticket Sale deadline is Wednesday, July 13.

Tickets will not be available at the door. No take out dinners!

Old Mission Santa Inés Needs You! We are accepting signups to

be a docent for our museum. There is no cost except your time.

We will train you and give you the materials you will need to be a

good docent. Training will be 3 days per week for 2 weeks, starting

Queen of Angels Year of Mercy Pilgrimage

It would be edifying to see every family coming to daily

Mass at least once a week besides Saturday evening or

Sunday. Please encourage our young people to come to

daily Mass and if you are not working or on a break dur-

ing this summer, give a good example by coming with them. We

all need so much spiritual help these days. What a great way to

start off the day by participating in daily Mass and receiving Christ

in Holy Communion. Daily Mass lasts approximately ½ hour.

Introducion a la Liturgia del Día:

Isaias 66:10-14; Salmo 66; Galatas 6:14-18; Lucas 10:1-12, 17-

20 o 10:1-9

Jesús dice en el Evangelio que la cosecha es mucha y los trabajado-

res pocos. También nuestra Iglesia necesita hoy de mas trabajado-

res. Al escuchar estas sagrada Escrituras seria bueno reflexionar

acera de las instrucciones de Jesús a sus discípulos e imaginarnos a

nosotros mismos en medio de los primeros evangelizadores. ¿Que

lecciones podríamos aprender para nuestra misión de hoy? .

Misa Diaria Seria edificante ver a cada familia venir a la Misa diaria a

menos una vez por semana aparte del sábado en la tarde o

el domingo. Por favor animen a nuestra juventud a venir

a Misa daría y si no esta trabajando de un buen ejemplo y

venga con ellos. En estos día participando en la Misa diaria y reci-

biendo la Santa Comunión. La Misa Diaria dura aproximadamente

½ hora. El Rosario se reza 30 minutos antes de la misa durante la

semana (en inglés). Los invitamos a que nos acompañen.
