ASK; Ask, Seek, Know (Luke 11:9) What would Jesus do? These are the words I fall back to when I am weak, when I want to encourage others to keep walking or when I just need that simple way to feel the presence of God. God has graced us with the gift of life and continuously blesses us. With those blessings we are to be compan- ions to others; walk with them, be present and share our blessings. More times than not, It is in lifting others we feel blessed. Prayer – What part does this play in all of this… what about unan- swered prayer? Jesus says, “So I say to you, Ask, and it will be given to you; search, and you will find; knock, and the door will be opened for you. For everyone who asks receives, and everyone who searches finds, and for everyone who knocks, the door will be opened” (Luke 11:9-10). Scripture bears witness to God’s will that everyone have enough to eat and that violence and war cease. Jesus tells us to pray for daily bread and for God’s kingdom to come. Yet millions continue to go hungry and wars rage on. Scripture tells us: that God is all- powerful, yet God is not the only power in the world. There are other powers at work. God’s will can be -- and often is -- thwarted. Jesus tells us in this passage: that we are invited into relationship with a loving God who wants to give us life, and who continues to work tire- lessly for our redemption and that of all creation. We dare to be shameless in our prayers, to keep bringing our needs and hopes to our heavenly Father, because Jesus tells us to do so, rusting in God’s lov- ing purpose for us. Not everything that happens is God’s will. But we can affirm with St. Paul, “in all things God works for good for those who love God, who are called according to his purpose” (Romans 8:28).Who are you walking with? Who or what are you praying for? Have you thought of keeping a prayer journal so that you can reflect on God’s never ending grace? Family Camping Come join us for camping over Labor Day weekend! The Seventeenth Sunday in Ordinary Time

Let us pray to all pilgrims of the WYD 2016 in Krakow, Poland including our very own –

Klarissa, Jonathan, Bianca, Emilio, Allison, Justin, Janae, Sarah, Amanda, John, Richard, Joel, Emily, Michael, Patricia & Joanna.

All powerful God, you always show mercy toward those who love you and you are never far away for those who seek you.

Remain with your servants as they travel on this holy pil-grimage and guide their way in accord with your will. Shel-ter them with your protection by day, give them the light of

your grace by night, and, as their companion on the journey, bring them to their destination in safety.

We ask this through Christ our Lord. Amen.

(Prayer from the WYDUSA Retreat Manual, and Book of Blessings

The theme of the XXXI World Youth Day Krakow 2016 (July 27-31) is: ‘Blessed are the merciful, for they shall obtain mercy’ (Mt 5:7). Our Holy Father Francis has chosen the fifth of the eight Beatitudes, given by Jesus in his Sermon on the Mount on the shores of the Sea of Galilee, to show the importance of the Beatitudes which are at the heart of Jesus’ teaching. In his first Sermon, Jesus presents us with eight examples of qualities that bring us closer to the Kingdom of God. The choice of Krakow and World Youth Day’s motto lead us to the Spark of Mercy. Since the appearance of Jesus to St. Sister Faustina, Mercy has been radiating from Krakow-Lagiewniki to the whole universal Church. Krakow is widely known as the center of worship of God’s mercy, and young pilgrims who come will surely want to see the place of the revelations, Sister Faustina’s tomb, and the shrine – the place where St. John Paul II entrusted the world to God’s Mercy. It’s worth noting that the fifth Beatitude sums up the first two years of Pope Francis’ pontificate as well. During that time he has striven to show the Church God’s love towards man and the necessity of being merciful to each other. At a meeting with young Argentinians in Rio, Pope Francis advised: ‘Read the Beatitudes, it will do you good.’ Our task is to re-read the message of the Beatitudes. For three consecutive years, the Pope has chosen for us three out of the eight Beatitudes as the themes for the WYDs. Each one is elaborated on in his addresses, in which he comments on theological matters and gives the youth some tasks for the next year of spiritual work.

PEACEMAKERS We celebrate today Pope Leo XIII who inaugurated the mod-ern era of Catholic Social Teaching with his encyclical Rerum Novarum (1891). Leo was the first pope to address the prob-lems associated with the rise of industrial capitalism and to declare the sympathy of the Church with the interests of the working class. He declared the interest of the Church in not only the spiritual welfare of the people, but their social and material welfare.

Pope Leo restated the Church’s commitment to the principles of social justice, the dignity of labor and the defense of the poor.

Quote: “I want to see the church so far forward that my succes-sor will not be able to turn back.”
