The Sixteenth Sunday in Ordinary Time

PRAY WITH US WORLD YOUTH DAY USA PRAYER (EXCERPT)

God our Father,

Be with us on our pilgrim journey of faith.

Give us the grace and courage to step

forward in faith and hope on the road

ahead.

Like the disciples who journeyed up the

mountain to witness the Transfiguration,

May this experience be an encounter

that strengthens us for our work in the

world.

Through the intercession of Mary, the

Immaculate Conception,

patroness of our nation,

May we be worthy witnesses of our faith,

humble representatives of our country,

and inspired missionaries

bringing peace, hope, and mercy into our

communities.

Amen.

A WORD OF THANKS

The World Youth Day pilgrims are thankful for our community’s generosity, prayers, and support.. Please join us on August 6-7, as the pilgrims will share their testimonies at every Mass.

PEACEMAKERS We celebrate today Pope Leo XIII who inaugurated the mod-ern era of Catholic Social Teaching with his encyclical Rerum Novarum (1891). Leo was the first pope to address the prob-lems associated with the rise of industrial capitalism and to declare the sympathy of the Church with the interests of the working class. He declared the interest of the Church in not only the spiritual welfare of the people, but their social and material welfare.

Pope Leo restated the Church’s commitment to the principles of social justice, the dignity of labor and the defense of the poor.

Quote: “I want to see the church so far forward that my succes-sor will not be able to turn back.”

SUMMER HOURS

The Parish Office. is closed at 4 pm, Monday through Thursday, and closed for lunch from 12-1. Friday we will be closed from 1- 4 pm.

The Summer of Saints movie series continues this Friday July 22nd at 6:00 pm in the Gym. We’ll begin with a potluck dinner and start the movie at 6:30pm. A short discussion will fol-low. This week’s film, Bakhita is the story of Jo-sephine Bakhita, a young woman from Sudan, who was kidnapped by slavers and sold to an Ital-ian merchant who took her in and made her a nanny to his daughter. Though she was treated as an outcast she maintained her dignity and was kind and loving to others. Guided by the village priest, she embraces Catholicism and asks to join the Canossian order, but is stymied by her em-ployer, who considers her to be his property. The ensuing legal battle impacts both her freedom, and her decision to become a religious sis-ter. NOTE: This film is in Italian with English sub-titles.
